What to expect at Gonzales Jambalaya Festival this Memorial Day weekend

GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) — In Ascension Parish, the pots are stirring and mouths will soon be watering at the 57th annual Gonzales Jambalaya Festival happening Memorial Day weekend.

It’s no secret that Gonzales is the Jambalaya Capital of the World. The festival started as an idea to promote the city and has since grown to be so much bigger.

“When the guys come to cook, they bring their families. They bring their kids, they bring their grandmother, they bring everybody, and that keeps them coming,” said Mike Gonzales, Interim Jambalaya Festival President.

Families can expect to see carnival rides, live music, competitions, car shows, vendors, pageants, and a 5K run.

This event starts Friday, May 24, and runs through Sunday, May 26. The first round of the cook-off competition started at 8:30 a.m. Gates to the carnival and vendors open at 5 p.m. and stay open until 10 p.m.

Entry is free and open to the public. The festival is located at 219 South Irma Blvd. in Gonzales.
