Expanded Discovery Garden opens at Edwardsville Children’s Museum

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Are you looking for summer activities for your younger kids? You may want to head over to the Edwardsville Children’s Museum, which is opening its new expansion of the Children’s Discovery Garden.

A major expansion of three new outdoor exhibits, including the Route 66 Roadway, which includes a working stoplight as well as a green Phillips 66 gas station, the green part of which is the station’s roof, which features planted vegetation, not only helps increase biodiversity and cleanliness in the air but also keeps part of the Discovery Garden cool during the hot summer.

An old storage shed repurposed into an old-fashioned filling station and garage filled with pedal cars for kids to take a spin around the tracks.

Another section of the expanded outdoor garden is the recycled tires that were repurposed and made to resemble a giant snake for kids to play on.

The Edwardsville Children’s Museum is open every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 a.m. through 5 p.m. Come explore what new features the museum has to offer this summer as it honors history, celebrates nature and sets the scene for nonstop fun.
