Excuse Us, Chip & Joanna Gaines Are Opening a Hotel?!

Chip and Joanna Gaines are taking on their biggest project yet.

The home renovation experts are upping their game and getting into the hotel business. The married couple of 15 years announced today on social media that they’ve partnered with AJ Capital Partners to bring a brand-new hotel to downtown Waco, Texas. In typical Chip and Jo fashion, they shared the news with a silly video.

Located in the historic Grand Karem Shrine building at 701 Washington Avenue, the hotel is mere blocks from the Magnolia Silos and is currently slated to open in 2021. Although they’ve yet to settle on a name, we’re sure the Gaines family will choose a winner.

Just like the homes they once renovated on Fixer Upper (R.I.P.), the Grand Karem Shrine building is a historic treasure built in 1928 that needs some major TLC. The three-story former county office boasts a massive 53,000 square feet and will be completely refurbished to include a rooftop terrace, grand ballroom, restaurant and café.

Chip and Jo even shared a rendering of what the future hotel will look like.

Gorgeous, right?

As Chip and Joanna dive into the renovation process, they plan to highlight the timelessness of the building, its rich history and distinctive architectural features.

“Home is a feeling, created by and for the people you love and share your life with; it’s a state of being known and loved just as you are,” the couple said in a statement. “That is our dream for this hotel—that it would serve as an extension of the way we feel about our own home and all it represents to us, and that every guest who comes to stay would experience that same sense of belonging and community. We’re honored to work alongside Ben Weprin and his team at AJ Capital Partners to bring this place to life.”

It looks like we’re planning a trip to Waco in 2021.
