Exclusive: Why Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay’s Wedding Registry Includes a Charity
Former Bachelorette star Rachel Lindsay is nothing if not intentional. The Dallas native, 34, and her beau, Bryan Abasolo, are deep into wedding planning, and one of the things that the couple is most excited about is the chance to give back as a part of their charity registry.
“There’s so many things that I’m passionate about, and the hardest thing for me was to pick the actual charity that I wanted,” she tells The Knot. “This is for my wedding, and I wanted to pick something that strikes a chord with me and …it means something to me. Alzheimer’s is a disease that has affected a number of people in my family—either they’re going through it right now or it’s taken their lives.”
Lindsay added that her aunt Gloria actually recently fell victim to the disease, and that has significantly impacted the bride-to-be’s outlook on life. “We look just alike. I called her ‘twin,’” the ESPN contributor says. “My grandmother had it, her sisters had it, and my aunt had it, and I was close to all of them. They won’t be with me physically to celebrate this day with me, [and] that’s why it was so important to give back to this charity because it has affected so many people.”
Lindsay isn’t the only celeb to opt in for a charity registry. Stars and personalities who’ve included this component as part of their wedding planning journey range from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas. Of course, couples these days are registering for everything from charity and experiences to those more traditional household products.
In addition to the charity registry, Lindsay and Abasolo have also selected a number of other items that range from the practical to the whimsical.
“The Vitamix is all Bryan,” she says. “Bryan has been wanting this, and I said, ‘Bryan, we’re going to fill out this registry, is there anything that you want?’ [And] he said Vitamix! That’s it. That’s the only thing he gave me.”
On Lindsay’s own wish list is a comfortable office chair (or two!), portable trays for TV dinners or serving guests, and a Dyson vacuum cleaner.
“This is honestly paying homage to the show,” she says. “When I was on The Bachelor in my welcome package, it showed me vacuuming with the Dyson. And people were like, ‘Look at that old school vacuum!’ And then somebody looked it up and was like, ‘No these are actually trendy and they’re expensive.’ So that was my sister’s vacuum and I thought to myself, ‘You know what? I’m going to put this on my registry because that’s how the world met me at first: dancing with a vacuum.”
On the more whimsical end of things, Lindsay hopes to personalize some common household items with monograms.
“I mean, honestly, I’m just excited about being Mrs. Abasolo,” she says. “I’m probably going to be that obnoxious person that’s wearing this stuff all the time. When people walk into our apartment, I want them to know we’re Mr. and Mrs. I have the towels, I’ve got the doormat, I even have the monogram for copper, the matching robe. I’m going to be so extra. … I will not go by Rachel anymore. I just want people to call me Mrs. Abasolo. It’s going to be like, ‘No excuse me, it’s Mrs. Abasolo.’”
