The cast list has been finalized and the crew of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series are getting ready for rehearsals. But Ashlyn needs a little pep talk before she goes on as Belle.
In an exclusive clip for Seventeen, Ashlyn reveals to Big Red her initial hesitation to play Belle, especially as she's never seen herself play a character like her before. Of course, Big Red being the best boyfriend ever, reminds her how much she totally deserves this role.
Julia Lester, who plays Ashlyn, also talked to Seventeen about this clip and how it was for Ashlyn at the time and how playing Belle is more than just getting the lead in Beauty and the Beast.
"Ashlyn is is somebody who never looked at herself as someone who had a lot of responsibilities or was a leader. She knows when to be there for her friends and when to be a team player, but she's never really been put in a position where she's been looked at as a leader before. She's somebody who's now in the spotlight within a month of playing Miss Darbis," Julia mentioned. "Now all of a sudden cast as Belle."
She also talked about how Big Red is the perfect person to be there for her, especially as they're just starting their relationship while this big event is happening to her.
"She's mostly grappling with the fact that she's being looked at as somebody who deserves to carry responsibilities and a relationship and that's really new for her. It's been really cool to see these depths of Ashlyn because, last year, she was really, EJ's cousin and was had a little flirty relationship with Big Red," she continued. "But now we really get to see her for who she is and her layer. It was really cool getting to read the script and see that we were gonna find out more about this character."
