The Hallmark Channel’s hit series of 2023, The Way Home, is finally back for season 2. Last year, we fell in love with the Landry girls and dove headfirst into the world of time travel alongside Kat and Alice. What began as a family drama morphed into a supernatural adventure, and now we just can’t look away. Hear what actors Chyler Leigh (Kat), Sadie Laflamme-Snow (Alice), and Evan Williams (Elliot) have to say about the all-new season of The Way Home.

Where 'The Way Home' Left Off

If you've already watched season 1, then you know that it ended with a dramatic cliffhanger where Kat announces to Del (Andie MacDowell) that she knows what happened to her long-lost brother Jacob. Of course, since the season finale we’ve been dying to find out what answers season 2 has in store for us. Luckily, all that emotional turmoil wasn't for nothing, as season 2 will pick up right where we left off. "I think it's pretty impressive that we pick up right where we left off in season 1, so we get to follow that moment through. It's not like '10 months later' and we just forget that that ever happened. We get that we left the audience in that kind of emotional place, and so I think to be able to give that a try is really exciting because people want the pay off of what they went through at the end of that season. Everything is building up to this moment and now finally we know where Jacob is. So, I'm excited for people to go on that ride, and know that we want to answer questions that they have and we want to give them more questions than they started with," Sadie Laflamme-Snow told Country Living.

What began as a family show fans would expect from Hallmark slowly pushed the boundaries of the channel, turning into an action-packed tale full of dark secrets, adventure, and tragedy. However, the characters keep The Way Home rooted in Hallmark tradition, with lots of heart and authenticity. With the success the series saw in season one, the pressure is on to deliver a second season that fans will love just as much. "When a show has a reception to the first season like ours has, there is going to be some pressure to try to repeat, and I know the impulse behind the show and the fact that it's so heart-centered and authentic and the characters are coming from a place that really is begging to be developed and opened up. Rather than being afraid, we're so excited about what this next chapter is going to be and we know that audiences are going to be chomping at the bit to see what's next in the story, and it's a great honor and privilege to bring that to them," Evan Williams told Country Living.

What to Expect from Season 2 of 'The Way Home'

Now that Kat has an idea of what happened to Jacob, the Landry girls are on a mission to find him and bring him home. This brings a whole new timeline into the mix: the 1800s. "I'm really excited, on a personal note, for the fans to meet the 1800s world. It is a whole different world, it really is. It's beautiful and gritty and it's deep, emotional stuff, but it's just got a whole different feel. And, I'm excited to see how it all blends together, just those separate journeys. It's all very informative and kind of lore for the Landrys so we're learning these origin stories through Alice's time travel as well," Chyler Leigh told Country Living.

As season 1 progressed, we saw how life on the farm and the shared experience of time travel affected Alice and Kat's relationship, and this season the pair only grows closer. "We were really at odds last year, Kat and Alice were really kind of like Kat versus Alice a lot of the time, they disagreed a lot, and now they've been able to come together in the time traveling. They can really go to each other for support. It's the fact that when we are apart, it's hard to be without the other," Laflamme-Snow explained.

Of course, as Kat and Alice's relationship strengthens through time travel, Kat's time traveling endeavors put more strain on her already fragile relationship with her own mother Del. "There are definitely nice moments between Kat and Del, but it's still very very strained because Kat's holding all this information and all these new discoveries and she can't talk to Del about it," Leigh revealed.

There is still so much left to be unpacked between the character dynamics, secrets of the past and even the possibility of the pond being able to transport Kat and Alice into the future, The Way Home is just getting started. "If you think finding where Jacob is is the answer to the big Landry family struggles, you've got a lot more to unpack. So yeah, we're not done," Laflamme-Snow said.

To find out exactly what's in store for Alice, Kat, Elliot, Del and the rest of The Way Home cast, tune into Hallmark Sundays at 9/8c beginning January 21. You can also stream The Way Home on Hallmark Movies Now and Peacock.

"It's bottomless, like the well that we're diving into, and there are so many gifts for an audience waiting for them when they join us on the adventure. Since it's heart centered, we can just keep going deeper and deeper into it," Williams concluded.
