Exclusive: Sarah Hyland’s Oval Engagement Ring From Wells Adams Is at Least 5 Carats
Wells Adams knew to get a modern engagement ring for Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland. The newly-engaged couple announced their happy relationship update on Tuesday, July 16, following a swoon worthy beach proposal.
In photos and video footage documenting the moment, Hyland’s new accessory—an oval shape engagement ring from the Bachelorette alum—remains front and center. The bauble is an oval-cut diamond set in what looks like a platinum solitaire setting, according to Blue Nile Chief Merchandising Officer Katie Zimmerman.
“This is on trend with what we’re seeing,” Zimmerman tells The Knot. “Solitaire settings are our top seller and popular for emphasizing the center stone.” Interestingly enough, the brand has seen sales for this particular shape double since 2016.
“It’s no question that your eyes draw to the elongated oval shape, which I’d estimate is 5 to 8 carats,” she adds. “We can estimate it’s a high quality color and clarity combination, which values the stone $50,000 to $80,000.”

Adams paid for it himself. The Bachelor in Paradise star and DJ previously expressed on his podcast that when a proposal comes along, he will present a ring that he’s purchased. “Can I go on the record right here?” Adams said in January on his podcast. “I will pay for this ring, I promise you. It will come out of my bank account, okay?”
The couple first met after Adams sent her a direct message on Instagram. Hyland told Jimmy Kimmel that the message read: “The next time you’re in L.A., I’m taking you out for drinks and tacos.”
They were friends first before anything turned romantic. Hyland knew Adams was special after she had gone through her second kidney transplant in 2017. “He’s seen me at my worst. I think that’s why I feel the most beautiful in his eyes, because he still finds me beautiful after seeing all that,” she told Self. “It was a really intimate start to a relationship to have to go through those hurdles at the very, very, very beginning when you’re just even getting to know a person. Also, falling in love with someone before you can really be intimate. I did not believe that that was a thing, but it is.”
