Exclusive Photos: My Big Fat Fabulous Life’s Whitney Way Thore Reveals Her Proposal Story
Fans of TLC’s hit My Big Fat Fabulous Life are about to embark on a new life chapter with Whitney Way Thore: as a fiancée. As previously reported, Thore and boyfriend Chase Severino got engaged last October. While vacationing in Paris, Severino surprised Thore with a very important question.
“I remember everything. I was half-sweaty and half-wet after climbing to the top of the Eiffel Tower in the rain,” Thore tells The Knot in an exclusive interview. “I was posing for a photo—Chase was behind me, and I thought he was taking a picture of me looking out over Paris, but when I turned around, he was on his knee holding out a ring.”
“I gasped and I think he just said, ‘Will you marry me?’ I don’t remember what I said, but I was totally in shock and it was obvious that my answer was yes. We kissed and hugged and then went back down to the bottom and across the street where some of my friends were waiting. Then, we called my parents and shared the good news.”

Thore, 35, and Severino have been dating since April 2019 after meeting on New Year’s Eve 2018. Thore candidly admits she never would have imagined that they’d be engaged within the year.
“Upon our first meeting, I never would’ve guessed we’d be engaged six months later, but hey … when you know, you know!” she says. Thore’s wedding ring, a stunning yellow sapphire surrounded by a halo of diamonds with a white gold band, “is so beautiful and exactly what [she] wanted.”

The couple’s entire relationship thus far—from first crush to dating to engagement—has been documented on My Big Fat Fabulous Life, which makes her engagement that much more special to ardent fans of the series. The pair originally met through their mutual friend Ryan Andreas, who also happens to be her business partner at NoBS Active. (Thore has been a continual inspiration to women everywhere with her push to eliminate body shaming, as well as her positive attitude while dealing with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.)
“What I love most about Chase is his kind and gentle spirit,” Thore says. “He is incredibly loving and never hesitates to show how much he loves me through his actions and the things he does. He really cares about people and how they feel. (He’s also is a huge advocate for the environment.)”
Presently, Thore and Severino are opting to live apart, though they do spend long weekends and vacations together. What’s most important, Thore tells us, is always making sure that both parties within a relationship “give each other space and remember that you can do things independently even while being in the same room.”

As for wedding plans, Thore and Severino aren’t in any rush just yet. But when they are, they’re hoping to use The Knot app to help them plan their big day. “We are still in the early stages of planning, but what I can say is that we found the venue,” she says.
My Big Fat Fabulous Life will air its season six finale on Tuesday, March 24, at 8 p.m. EST on TLC.
