Exclusive: You Can Now Register for Experiences on Bed Bath & Beyond

These days, couples are requesting a new kind of gift for their wedding registries: experiences. Take, for example, shark cage diving, which isn’t necessarily for the faint of heart, but it certainly works for those who want to take more than just the proverbial plunge during the honeymoon. Which is why Bed Bath & Beyond announced Thursday, September 26, that it is now offering experiences to couples who set up a wedding registry on its site.

The brand is partnering with a platform called Vebo so that to-be-weds (and basically the general public) can tailor experiences based on their preferences and add it to their wedding registries or wish lists. There’s something for everybody (especially foodies, who can register for experiences that will take them through a local region—think, Tequila, Tacos and Tombstones in Mexico or a lobster roll tour through New England).

“We strive to provide our customers with a comprehensive registry experience, giving them the ability to register for gifts that are considered essential by couples including both traditional items like cookware and non-traditional options like experiences,” Bed Bath & Beyond VP of Lifestages, Rob Magarino, says in the company’s exclusive release to The Knot. “Creating a registry is about building a life together and with the inclusion of experiences, we can help couples create everlasting memories at home and beyond.”

Of course, couples can still request those coveted classic registry staples like the KitchenAid Stand Mixer and the newest model Dyson vacuum. In 2018, The Knot Wedding Registry Study found that Bed Bath & Beyond was one of the top retailers to be added to couples’s wedding registries. About 53 percent of respondents at the time said they added the company to their wedding registries. Experiences becoming part of that fold will likely encourage couples to be inventive and creative about what they request from their loved ones (even workouts are fair).

The Knot 2018 Wedding Guest Study found that on average, wedding party members spend $295 in total on gifts for wedding-related events like the bachelor and bachelor parties, bridal shower and more. The breakdown for the wedding alone, however, was $107.

Wedding guests, on average, spend about $88 on the wedding day gift. Last year alone, about 34 percent of guests purchased off the couple’s registry, while 10 percent gave gift cards. The habit of stuffing a wedding card with cash or a check was still a practice in 2018 with about 29 percent of those surveyed (about 1,300 people) choosing to go that route.

Now that experiences and cash funds exist, however, that behavior will likely evolve with couples requesting everything from puppy funds to pay-off-debt-funds as well. Check out the fun list of experiential registry offerings from Bed Bath & Beyond below and make sure to start your registry today.
