Mane Muse Beth Behrs Gets a Hair Makeover

If you’ve ever seen an episode of Two Broke Girls, you know Beth Behrs as the sassy blonde actress that plays Caroline Channing in the hit sitcom. Known for her signature long blonde strands and statement bangs, we knew we had to get Beth in for a Mane Muse shoot pronto!

So armed with a glam squad including Aviva Perea on hair and Kindra Mann on makeup, we set forth to bring out Beth’s beautiful strands in a new light.

The first look was inspired by a dreamy haze. We lusted for ultra long strands and soft buttery blonde airy texture. Aviva Parea tells us, “I love the word frothy to describe this!” as she explains how to recreate the look. “I started with wet hair, then coated the strands with Show Divine Thickening and Volume Mist from roots to ends.”

When working with blonde hair, it’s important to take precaution when heat styling to keep strands healthy. “I used Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer. It acts the same way a primer would for your face; it just keeps everything together. I then used Oribe Heat Styling Spray, mostly just on the ends where her strands are more fragile.”

“Because this look channels long hair and she has a bob, I started layering in clip-in extensions. When trying to camouflage a short haircut, you have to use A LOT of extensions.”

“To style, I used a T3 1 ¼ inch iron on medium heat. To keep it more loose and undone, I kept the heat at medium, alternating directions with the iron. If I had used high heat, the hair would have been too curly. After all her hair was curling, I just quickly ran the iron through random pieces of hair to smooth it out. I finished the look with Bumble and bumble Dryspun Finish and Show Dry Shampoo for airy texture, then just messed it up with my hands.”

“I feel like Khaleesi from Game of Thrones,” says Beth as she reminisces on her long haired days. “I used to love long beachy hair that I would curl with a wand, but these days I’m really into super sleek and straight strands because my hair is so much shorter.”

Beth’s second look was all about romance. There’s a little bit of Hollywood glam in a tucked bob, though Beth admits she felt ‘mod.’ “After taking out all her hair extensions, I used a 1 inch curling iron around her face,” says Aviva, who really tries to maintain the integrity of the hair she styles. “I really try to save her hair from the heat when I can, so I just use the iron around the front where it would show up on camera. I then backcombed all of her hair and put the bottom four inches at the nape of her neck into a ponytail, which became my anchor. Then I pulled the rest of the hair and pinned it into the ponytail to create a tucked faux bob. I then just pinned into place and finished with Moroccanoil Shine Spray and Oribe Apres Beach Wave Spray.”

The last look was A-line, short, and natural, a look Beth confesses feeling “most like me. It’s wavy, I’m wearing black, it’s kind of what I usually do, so the look feels most authentic.”

If you’ve been watching the show, you may have been surprised when Caroline debuted short locks after 3 seasons of long blonde hair. “I decided to go short [with my length] because I needed a change and my hair needed a break! Especially after the last two seasons of Two Broke Girls. I was wearing a lot of extensions. I felt like the character had changed so much, and we needed to do the same thing with her look.”

To create the A-line waves, Aviva “layed extensions in a slant, so that she would have more length towards the front. I then curled the hair so that everything was going away from the face to create more sculpted waves. After letting the hair cool, I used Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray.”

With how much Aviva loves Oribe, it’s no surprise to find that the brand includes one of Beth’s favorite products; “I love Oribe Dry Texture Spray!!” she says. But after a long day on set when her hair has been worked and restyled, “I like to use Pureology and Neutrogena clarifying shampoo. They just kind of clean up the buildup that happens over time.”
