“We always find the weirdest-shaped houses and then renovate them,” says Keltie Knight, who moved into her Sherman Oaks, California, home with her husband knowing it would become their next fixer-upper. Roughly three and a half years later, their vision for the hillside oasis as a hub for all things work and play has come together at last.

For Knight, the Spanish-style home “is all about the view,” because “every window you look out of showcases green.” Naturally, the four-bedroom, four-bathroom residence spanning 5,500 square feet across two stories offers more than a scenic backdrop. It lends itself nicely to entertaining friends and hosting family. “I also was working from home even more, and so I really needed an office space for the LadyGang podcast—and now our studio is literally in my house,” she says.

Built in 1992 and likely renovated by a previous owner, the home came bathed in shiny surfaces, sleek lines, and sad, gray tones—a far cry from Knight’s warm, organic style. The stark look paired with outdated features, including a clunky, curved wet bar in the living room and wall-to-wall carpeting in the bedroom, needed to go. Knight set out to give the home a cozy revamp with a nature-inspired color palette of soft whites, burnt orange, and greens. Natural wood and faux concrete accents round it out.

While Knight has an affinity for tackling home projects herself and chronicling every part of the process online—whether it involves refinishing secondhand furniture, ripping out walls, or painting a fireplace mantel—she had serious DIY help from her “Mr. Fixer” and dad, Ken. He made frequent trips from northern Canada, where their family is from, to handle everything from single-handedly demoing her bathroom to mounting an ironing board in the laundry room. “I pay him in nice pasta dinners that I cook,” Knight says.

The TV personality calls the kitchen the center of her and her husband Chris’s world. It took three years to finish after a slew of headaches, like a burst pipe-induced flood and multiple hood fan reinstallations. The pair now eats almost every meal at the kitchen island on plush, boucle-covered stools and under romantic lantern lights. Knight adds, “I love that we put a sitting bench in the kitchen because usually when I’m cooking dinner, my husband will come home and just lay down with our dog, [Callie], and we visit and talk about our days.”

Since Knight and her husband, who is a general manager at Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, are a household of two, they turned the dining room into a library. It’s where they spend most of their time. “My favorite thing is to have my friends over and play cards, have dinner, and hang in the big comfy chairs,” she says of the room, which features red velvet seating from Urban Outfitters around an Anchorage concrete pedestal table.

What she loves about the library itself is being surrounded by her “best friends” aka her books. “For my 40th birthday, my husband gave me the complete set of first-edition Nancy Drew books,” she says. “They are my showpiece in that room.

The dining room turned library doesn’t mean the couple is without a dining area. They fashioned one out of the former living room, and it’s actually where Knight’s favorite piece of furniture is on display: a custom dining table made by her friend and Glee alum Heather Morris’s husband, who owns the L.A.–based Hubbell Woodshop. Taking on an organic shape, the table pulls apart into two pieces. Knight uses one end for tacos or desserts when she wants to play hostess. The fluted cabinets of the nearby bar area were also made by the same craftsman.

When it comes to collecting, Knight values the art and decor she’s amassed during travels and from small businesses. But she also deeply cherishes items connected to her loved ones. I found a drawing my husband did of himself as a child on old construction paper and framed it,” Knight says of her favorite piece of art. “I swear it's profound how much it looks like him.”

Another prized possession is a little cardboard book called “the Dad list.” In it, Knight takes note of things she needs done around the house for her dad to complete whenever he visits. “It's got 10 years of projects we've worked on and completed together, and it's just really special,” she says.

An unassuming detail is the money ring on one of her Emmy awards. Her producing partner, Jodi Roth, gave it to her as a good luck gift when they started their production company Yacht Money a few years ago and sold their first show. “I put it on the Emmy, and that's where it stays,” she says. “It's supposed to bring you success and money.”

Out of every room, the primary bedroom proved to be the easiest for Knight to design. She knew she wanted it to be simple. The focal point is a custom bed upholstered in a moss-green velvet fabric. Long lantern lights and an oversized, fluffy comforter set the tranquil mood. Her first significant purchase for the home is the pair of white, fuzzy RH chairs, found at an outlet, in the bedroom’s elevated sitting area.

For her bathroom, Knight worked with interior designer and builder Correy McCrummen of Candor Design & Build. A main priority was to ensure maximum storage. “I am a hoarder of beauty products,” Knight said in a video with the woodshop Modern Twig. “Cause I work on television and I’m doing red carpets and photo shoots all the time, I’m always getting glammed at home.”

As a self-proclaimed "fancy, bougie person with a regular girl budget," Knight had to get creative. To get a high-end look at a reasonable price tag, she chose IKEA cabinets with Modern Twig fronts. A spacious vanity was also a must for at-home makeover sessions.

Unsurprisingly, Knight’s most treasured area throughout the property is the backyard. “It’s how I stay sane with my crazy schedule and four jobs,” she explains. “We planted a ton of lavender, and the color palette is inspired by a trip to Ibiza. It’s very calming.”

Knight worked with landscape designer Abi Cohen to bring the al fresco retreat to fruition. She often takes her morning coffee outside and works on her computer from the table on the covered patio. The solid wood piece along with the chairs and cushions was a Facebook Marketplace find totaling $1,500. A swinging bench and chaise lounge chairs provide additional seating near the pool.

The way Knight has poured soul (and a little sweat and tears) into the home stems from her style philosophy. “I read a quote once [about how] if you surround yourself with things you love, you don’t have to worry about themes or trends ‘cause your theme will be ‘things I love,’ and that’s always stuck with me.”
