Jewelry brand Laura Cantu has collaborated with “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” costume designer Trish Summerville on a jewelry collection inspired by the film.

Next year will mark the 10th anniversary since “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1” was released in theaters, and “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” takes fans of the franchise into the backstory of many of the characters with a prequel film.

“I wanted to do something to give acknowledgment to fans of ‘The Hunger Games’ books and movies that would encapsulate the artistry of the films,” Summerville said. “I didn’t want to do something logo-based because that logo is so iconic and there’s products out there for that, so I did jewelry inspired by places and characters in the film.”

To that end, Summerville created bracelets, necklaces, rings and dog tags at a price point between $28.95 and $75.95. Pieces, like the dog tag, are a direct reference to characters who wear dog tags in the film, while charms on bracelets take their imagery from “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” golden bird and golden snake emblem logo.

Summerville wanted to do jewelry because she felt it was something long-lasting that customers could buy and wear immediately and have for years to come. For this collaboration, Summerville wanted it centered purely on “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” so it was a stand-alone separate from past “The Hunger Games” collections. However, she did create one “10” charm to tie into the 10th anniversary and to denote the “The Ballads of Songbirds and Snakes” depicting the 10th “Hunger Games.”

The costumes that came to inspire the jewelry were built on a post-war, ’40s and ’50s Americana aesthetic. “I kept the jewelry collaboration classic to reflect what the world of ‘The Hunger Games’ was like before the original films and there was so much decadence,” Summerville said. “There are so many decades between the setting of this prequel and the first film, so the costumes had to reflect that and the jewelry had to reflect that too. I avoided large items and sculptural pieces. It’s one of the reasons I did charm bracelets, because people have worn them for generations.”

She added, “I didn’t want to create fast-fashion pieces that were just trendy, even though it’s based on a film that came out in a specific year. I’ll be wearing my charm bracelets for years to come.”
