If we’re talking about the relationship story of 2020, it’d probably have to be the story of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith’s marriage — and the entanglement heard ’round the world. But every marriage (and just about any relationship dynamic) requires work, attention and deep reflection to stay functional for long — and sometimes you need a third party to help shed some honest light on what’s working and what isn’t. And that’s why this week’s Red Table Talk on Facebook Watch is here to share the good word of Pinkett-Smith’s own relationship counselor, Michaela Boehm.

In this exclusive sneak peek clip, check out a first-look at this week’s episode “How to Heal a Broken Heart,” as Boehm helps a woman understand why she consistently finds her fledgling relationships ending when the other person isn’t looking for a “deep commitment.”

Sharing how she tends to not be forthcoming about the commitments she’s looking for (and instead misrepresents her own desires to line up with what she believes her partner wants to hear), Boehm tells her that pulling that chameleon maneuver is a sure-fire way to doom a relationship before it can even begin.

“We tend to really feel what other people need and then morph ourselves in ways so we get love,” Boehm says. “But it’s the very thing that will make a relationship not work. Because who you say you are and who you really are is not the same — and that eventually bites you in the relationship.”

Is it feeling a bit too real in here or is it just me? If you feel like you’re being read here — or at the very least want to see what else Boehm, Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Gammy (Adrienne Banfield-Norris) have to share in the realm of relationships — you can tune in to Red Table Talk on Facebook Watch today at 12pm EST/9am PST.
