EXCLUSIVE: Ellis Brooklyn Reveals Fundraise

Fragrance brand Ellis Brooklyn has closed a $9 million Series A investment round led by venture firm REDO Ventures.

Ellis Brooklyn was created in 2014 by Bee Shapiro, a former attorney and longtime New York Times beauty columnist and launched on Sephora.com two years later with four fine fragrances that focused on sustainability.

The brand makes fragrances, candles and personal care products and is carried at Ulta, Nordstrom, Bluemercury and Credo, and internationally at Mecca, Liberty London and Space NK.

Bestsellers include Myth Eau De Parfum, $108, Sand Fragrance Body Mist, $45, and Florist Eau De Parfum, $108.

Ellis Brooklyn declined to disclose revenue, but noted that it is growing double digits and is slated to double next year.

“Getting to know the REDO team has been a pleasure in that I am working with partners that know the industry inside and out,” Shapiro said of the investment. “They have quickly become our thought and strategy partners for the next phase of growth ahead for Ellis Brooklyn and are aligned in growing the brand in a thoughtful, positioned way.”

In particular, the new investment will help Ellis Brooklyn expand their presence in existing key retail partners, provide resources for product innovation and growth, and expand their team, according to the company.

REDO Ventures’ other investments include Dieuxskin, Vacation, Odacite and The Nue Co.

“We are highly enthused to be partnering with Bee in support of her commitment to olfactory excellence which resonate deeply with our values,” added Nicolas Geiger, REDO Ventures founding managing partner of its investment in Ellis Brooklyn. “We look forward to leveraging REDO Ventures expertise as global brand builders in support of Ellis Brooklyn’s compelling growth trajectory.”

In 2021, Ellis Brooklyn raised a $1 million seed round from Stage 1 Fund and Toni Ko, the founder of Nyx.
