EXCLUSIVE: Candace Cameron Bure Is Missing Her Kids After Quarantine

For those of us who grew up in the ’80s and ’90s, it’s super hard to fathom the fact that Candace Cameron Bure has fully grown children in their teens and 20s. Reboot aside, she’s always going to be teenage D.J. Tanner to us! Still, we’ve loved watching Bure’s own full house during stay-at-home orders, as she, her with husband Val, daughter Natasha (22), and sons Lev (20) and Maksim (18) entertain each other on their various social media feeds.

When we had the chance to catch up with Bure, she was back on the Canadian set of her upcoming Hallmark Movies. She was happy to be working again as an actor, producer, and director, while also juggling her own lifestyle product line and being the spokesperson for StarKist. Still — and we may be projecting here — she also seemed to be feeling a little nostalgic for all that time she spent at home with the kids.

More from SheKnows

SheKnows: What did you and your kids do together during quarantine?

Candace Cameron Bure: It’s gone through stages, but one that’s consistent is cooking meals together. We’ve watched lots of movies, played board games, spent time in the pool, working out, and of course, doing work/school via Zoom and the internet.

SK: Did you pick up any new hobbies?

CCB: No new hobbies — except TikTok. Yup, it sucked me in. I’m actually spending more time doing the things I already love but don’t always get enough time for, like working out, reading, and cooking.

SK: Natasha’s birthday is coming up. How will you guys celebrate?

CCB: It is! Unfortunately, I won’t be home for her birthday as I’m in Canada filming two new Hallmark movies, and I’m not able to travel back and forth because of border restrictions. I think Natasha will have a low-key quarantine birthday at home, just like I did in April and my husband, Val, did in June. FaceTime is my best friend right now, since I’m away from home.

SK: What is one of your favorite healthy meals to make with the family?

CCB: I love cooking meals from the book Love Real Food by Kathryne Taylor. However, not every night is a cook-from-scratch kind of night. On the days I don’t have much time to cook, my secret weapon is StarKist Creations Microwavables. They are so convenient and satisfying with wild-caught tuna, grains and vegetables all in one. I heat up the pouch for 30 seconds in the microwave, add a side salad, and we’re good to go. Everyone is happy!

SK: What projects do you have coming up? What it’s like producing and directing vs. acting?

CCB: I’m currently filming our 14th Aurora Teagarden Mystery movie, on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Channel, and an all new Christmas movie! I can’t believe this will be my ninth Christmas movie for Hallmark Channel to date. Producing, directing, and acting are the various ways I get to use my brain, creativity, and talent. I love them all for different reasons and being able to collaborate within the same project from each perspective produces the ultimate outcome.

SK: How do you manage it all?

CCB: I have a lot of inner drive and motivation. I’m not sure where it all comes from, but there’s a little voice inside me that pushes me to prove to myself I can succeed in anything I put my mind to.
