Expedia may have cracked the code to successful travel in 2024.

According to the travel site's 2024 Air Travel Hacks Report for Smoother Travel, experts share insights on the best time to book your flight, and even ways to minimize potential delays or cancellations.

The report, which is based on Expedia's insights and data from the Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) and OAG, a UK-based travel data provider, specifically shares that travelers looking to score the cheapest tickets should book 28 days in advance of departing for domestic and 60 days ahead for international flights.

Additionally, extra savings can be had by booking flights that operate on Sunday as Friday flights traditionally have the most expensive ticket prices.

The report also has a helpful tip to make sure a traveler actually gets to where they want to go. Flights that depart before 3 p.m. are more likely to take off, whereas flights after 3 p.m. are 50 percent more likely to be delayed or even canceled.

Expedia’s report also notes travelers can look forward to a 3 percent decrease in booking airfare in 2024, compared to the higher prices of 2022.

The report also shared where people are booking trips next year with cites like New York, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas coming out as the top destinations for travelers within the United States.

“Air travel has proven resilient over the past few years, with travelers increasingly taking to the skies for both business and leisure," ARC’s Managing Director of Data Science and Research Chuck Thackston said of the report. "Fortunately for those travelers, the cost of airfare has been below 2022 levels for most of the year.”
