The life of 1970s fashion icon Halston is coming to the small screen. Halston, a new limited series from super-producer Ryan Murphy, will explore the designer's life in New York City during his heyday in the '70s and '80s.

The Star Wars alum will play Halston (born Roy Halston Frowick) himself. He's been researching the role by speaking to the designer's old friends—and going backstage at Naeem Khan's recent fashion show. "I wanted to observe Naeem," McGregor explained to the New York Post. “I’m playing the fashion designer Halston in a series, and Naeem used to work with him... "I’ve been speaking to a lot of Halston’s old friends," he said, adding, "It’s been really, really good fun.

He'll be joined by Rory Culkin as Joel Shumacher, Rebecca Dayan as Elsa Peretti, David Pittu as Joe Eula, Krysta Rodriguez as Liza Minnelli, Sullivan Jones as Ed Austin, and Gian Franco Rodriguez as Victor Hugo.

Murphy dropped the first preview on Instagram.

He shared a slideshow of three video clips, each of which offers a look at the actors in character. In his comment, the producer revealed that production had begun, and he proceeded to name a list of people who were working on the project. "I am so proud of our director and leader Dan Minahan, and Christine Vachon of Killer Films," Murphy wrote. "I am thrilled to be producing this great and meaningful show with them and Alexis Martin Woodall and Pamela Koffler." But he has since deleted the post. The project will be written by The Affair's Sharr White.

Dan Minahan, who recently won an Emmy for his work on American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, will direct. In addition to starring in the series, McGregor will also serve as an executive producer, alongside Minahan and White.

The show will premiere Friday, May 14.

It will be available to stream on Netflix.
