The Evil Within 2 has an ultra-hard difficulty called Classic, where you can only save 7 times

The Evil Within 2 looks much more accessible than its predecessor, with three different difficulties that cater to different players. It ranges from casual, which has more items, weaker enemies, and a key ability unlocked from the start, to Nightmare, which is for fans of the original The Evil Within's difficulty.

Nightmare isn't the hardest difficulty, though. After completing the game once, and moving on to New Game Plus, you'll unlock Classic difficulty. In terms of gameplay, it's the same as Nightmare, with limited supplies and tough enemies, but it also lacks auto saving. Every time you die, you'll be taken back to the title screen, rather than a recent safe location.

You are able to save manually in Classic, but only 7 times. That's 7 times throughout the entire game, meaning saving must only be done at crucial moments. We're not entirely sure how long the game is, but the original The Evil Within was about 16 hours, so you'd probably be limited to one save every few hours. It sounds brutal.

If that wasn't difficult enough, in Classic, you can't upgrade weapons or the protagonist, Sebastian. Everything is kept at its base level, meaning no improvements to either Sebastian or his arsenal.

The Classic difficulty is only unlocked in New Game Plus, so you can't dive in to it right away. In New Game Plus, though, there are apparently more items to find to help players look for secrets, which should make things easier. There's also new outfits for Sebastian, plus a hint at a permanent change to his appearance "depending on what you did during your first playthrough."
