These States Won't Be Selling Liquor On Memorial Day
Need to run out on Memorial Day to get everything you need for an icy piña colada? Or maybe a strawberry daiquiri to pair with your Memorial Day shindig's BBQ ribs and corn on the cob? Or, if you're anything like us, you're planning to make a boozy and patriotic batch of rocket Jell-O shots this year.
Some of us might need to gather our supplies ahead of time. Because depending on which state (or even which county) you live in, your local liquor stores may be closed for the holiday, which is May 29 this year.
Don't worry, though! We've done the hard work for you, finding all the hours of liquor stores around the country so you know if you have to plan ahead. As always, we recommend calling ahead just to double check your local liquor store hours. Have a (responsible and safe) blast!
The following states are alcoholic beverage control states (ABC states), meaning the state controls the sale and/or distribution of liquor. (Keep in mind, though, that even if states allow the state-run liquor stores to be open, hours can still vary by location.)
Alabama: Liquor stores will be closed, with the exception of the Orange Beach and Gulf Shores locations.
Idaho: Liquor stores will be closed.
Iowa: Liquor stores will be open, but delivery will not be available.
Maine: Liquor stores will be open.
Michigan: Liquor stores will be open.
Mississippi: Liquor stores will be open.
Montana: Liquor stores will be closed.
New Hampshire: Liquor stores will be open.
North Carolina: Liquor stores will be open.
Ohio: Liquor stores will be open.
Oregon: Liquor stores can be open but vary from store to store.
Pennsylvania: Liquor stores will be open.
Utah: Liquor stores will be closed.
Vermont: Liquor stores will be open.
Virginia: Liquor stores will be open.
West Virginia: Liquor stores will be open.
Wyoming: Liquor stores will be open.
The following states are not ABC states and have privately-owned liquor stores. That means holiday hours are up to the owner of the store. Individual counties and municipalities could have laws that effect whether stores are open on Memorial Day, too. As always, call ahead to find out what your local store is doing!
