Everything Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Said About Their Baby Boy During Their First Family Photocall
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry introduced the world to their son this afternoon in Windsor Castle at their first intimate photocall as a family. And there, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex took questions from a reporter about their new baby. Both wore light colors, Meghan in a Givenchy dress.
Here, all they said.
Meghan was first asked what it's been like being a new mom. "It’s magic. It’s pretty amazing. And I have the two best guys in the world so I’m really happy," she said.
On what Baby Sussex is like, she said that he was sleeping well and is a good baby. "He has the sweetest temperament. He’s really calm."
"I wonder who he gets that from," Harry joked, and Meghan laughed.
"And he’s just been the dream so it’s been a special couple days," the Duchess added.
Meghan and Harry haven't quite determined who he resembles yet. "We're still trying to figure that out," Meghan said.
Harry added, "Everyone says that babies change so much over two weeks we're basically monitoring how the changing process happens over this next month really. But his looks are changing every single day, so who knows."
Harry then spoke about how he's found new parenting. "It's great. Parenting is amazing. It's only been two and a half days, three days, but we're just so thrilled to have our own little bundle of joy." He added that the couple is looking forward to spending "precious times with him as he slowly, slowly starts to grow up."
The couple confirmed that they will see the Queen and Prince Philip today. "We just bumped into the Duke [of Edinburgh, Prince Philip] as we were walking by, which was so nice," Meghan said. "So it'll be a nice moment to introduce the baby to more family and my mom's with us as well."
When asked to show more of their son's face to the camera, Harry did make a little joke. "He's already got a little bit of facial hair as well, wonderful."
And just as they left, Meghan thanked the world for their support. "Thank you everybody for all the well wishes and kindness, it just means so much."
The Duchess of Sussex gave birth to their little boy just two days ago. The couple announced his birth on Instagram, writing, "We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz. The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days."
Harry also gave his own interview immediately after the birth to a reporter, telling him that he and Meghan were "absolutely thrilled" to welcome their son and have the world's support.
I’m very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy early this morning, a very healthy boy. Mother and baby are doing incredibly well. It’s been the most amazing experience I could ever possibly imagine. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension. But we’re both absolutely thrilled and so grateful to all the love and support of everybody out there. It’s been amazing so we just wanted to share this with everybody. [We’re] still thinking about names. The baby’s a little bit overdue so we’ve had a little bit of time to think about it, but that’s the next bit. But for us, I think we’ll be seeing you guys in probably two days’ time as planned as a family to share it with you guys and so everyone can see the baby. I haven’t been at many births; this is definitely my first birth, but it was amazing, absolutely incredible. And as I said, I’m so incredibly proud of my wife and as every father and parent would ever say, your baby is absolutely amazing. But this little thing is absolutely to die for. I’m just over the moon. Thank you very much, guys. Thank you.
