Thom Browne Teases Fall ’22 Tartan Collection
Last month, Thom Browne made headlines when the designer made the decision to opt out of New York Fashion Week this month in favor of showing his fall 2022 collection in late April closer to the Met Gala.

As to not leave the fashion crowd completely hanging though, Browne has released a teaser of his upcoming collection featuring his signature tartan design, which has been an integral part of the brand’s heritage since it first appeared in his fall 2006 menswear collection.
In a series of images released to coincide with New York Fashion Week, Browne’s tartan is seen in tailoring items and skirt dressings for men and women. Knits, footwear and bags, including the signature Mr. and Mrs. Thom and Hector styles, have also been envisioned in the custom grey and navy check. And, new for fall 2022, Browne introduces tartan into his childrenswear line.
Expect to see more tartan at Thom Browne’s fall 2022 men’s and women’s runway show on April 29 in New York City.

Greedilous Brings Fashion to the Metaverse
Monday night saw the Fashion Week debut of Korean label Greedilous, as well as LG’s Artificial Intelligence, Tilda, at Spring Studios. Their sustainable “Flowers on Venus” collection, designed by creative director Younhee Park and Tilda, featured vibrant floral puffer jackets, flowing skirts and knitwear. The shoes were equally bold, ranging from punchy printed combat boots to furry slingback sandals. “It fit like a glove with my fashion philosophy. I didn’t hesitate to jump on the opportunity to move forward with this collaboration as I knew it would bring the ultimate synergy and I am so thrilled with how it turned out,” said Park in a statement.

Christian Siriano’s Front Row
On Saturday, Christian Siriano hosted a star-studded front row for his fall ’22 runway show hosted in the basement of the Empire State Building. In attendance was Susan Sarandon, Drew Barrymore, Hannah Waddingham, Alicia Silverstone, and Anna Chlumsky. Meanwhile, Karen Elson and Coco Rocha walked the runway. As for the collection, Siriano calls it the Victorian Matrix. “This name comes from so many references to the time we are living in – some days feel like we are living in the Victorian era, while others feel like we’re living in the Matrix. What is real anymore?” he said.

Maude Apatow Moderates Talk with Rodarte
On Friday night, Afterpay presented “The Art of Rodarte,” a conversation between “Euphoria’s” Maude Apatow and Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte. The designers talked about their big break with WWD, writing and directing their own movie and designing costumes for film. Though they worked on “Black Swan in the past, Rodarte more recently created costumes for “Sing 2.” The sisters talked about the differences between animated and live-action costume designing, like how one costume took a year to bring to life.

Chloé Celebrates Soho Boutique Reopening and Launch of Nama Sneaker
To kick off NYFW, the French fashion house unveiled a refresh of its Greene Street shop while also debuting its new Nama sneaker — both sustainably-minded. For the downtown location, Chloé and its creative director Gabriela Hearst tapped New York based makers Antoine Dumas and Benji Gavron to create 17 sculptural art pieces using reclaimed wood. The Norman Foster-designed space echoes the low impact ethos of the brand’s Nama sneaker, which comes with an extensive list of recycled components.
Katie Holmes, Hari Nef, Marisa Tomei and Zazie Beetz were among the guests who joined Hearst to fête the new shop and its sneakers. Some even bought a few pairs while they partied.

Nordstrom Kicks Off the Week
On Thursday night, Nordstrom NYC hosted a cocktail celebration in honor of the newly-appointed women’s designer fashion and editorial director, Rickie De Sole. The party was filled with designers such as Thom Browne, Gabriela Hearst, Wes Gordon, Laura Kim & Fernando Garcia, Joseph Altuzarra, Derek Lam, Jonathan Cohen, Victor Glemaud, Jonathan Simkhai, Prabal Gurung, Kingsley Gbadegesin, Marina Larroudé, , Alejandra Alonso Rojas, Adam Lippes, Tanya Taylor, Thakoon Panichgul and more. Nordstrom’s Pete Nordstrom was also in attendance.

Keds Named the ‘Official Sole of NYFW’
Keds has inked a new partnership deal with IMG and New York Fashion Week: The Shows for 2022. Through this deal, Keds has been named the “Official Sole of NYFW,” with the brand debuting new and exclusive footwear collections in both the spring and fall of 2022. Beginning in February, a wide array of new footwear styles will walk the runway.
Keds’ first collaboration will kick off with buzzy fashion brand Maisie Wilen. Founder and designer Maisie Schloss, a Yeezy alum, will debut the first look at her footwear collection with Keds at her NYFW presentation on Saturday, Feb. 12.
According to Keds, the collaboration reimagines classic styles from the footwear brand through Maisie’s vibrant lens. “Working with Keds on this remarkable, women-led collaboration has been a dream,” said Schloss. “Keds will help to bring an exciting and fun element to complete each of our presentation looks.”
Keds will continue to partner with IMG during September’s NYFW and will reveal another footwear collection later this year.

Thom Browne Pushes Fall Show to April
Thom Browne is the latest designer to axe his fall 2022 runway show during New York Fashion Week. Instead, the designer is pushing his next runway show to April 29. The format will be dual gender, and the location is yet to be determined, but will take place in NYC.
The brand did note that the designer will “share a project” during New York Fashion Week that will explore themes showcased in the upcoming April show.
According to a report at FN’s sister publication WWD, Browne decided to delay his fall 2022 showing because of Omicron-related logistics challenges, and because he wanted to lend support for part two of “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” opening May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, and curated by his partner Andrew Bolton.
“It was a conscious decision on my part to have it closer to the opening of his show which has been such a strong way for the world to see American fashion since part one opened last September,” Browne told WWD. “Regardless of when you are showing and where, if you are an American designer you are representing American fashion and playing a part in that American calendar.”

Tom Ford Cancels Show Due to COVID Outbreaks, Production Issues
Tom Ford has decided not to move forward with his in-person show during New York Fashion Week slated for Feb. 16.
In a short statement on Monday, the designer noted that due to COVID outbreaks over the past few weeks in the atelier and the design studio in Los Angeles, as well as recent shutdowns of its factories in Italy, the Tom Ford collection will not be ready to show in New York as originally planned.
“I am incredibly disappointed not to be able to present a show during New York fashion week as I feel strongly that a live presentation is the best way to convey a clear message for the season,” said Ford in a statement. “We have tried everything possible to avoid canceling our New York show but ultimately are faced with the sad fact that we will simply not have a completed collection in time for New York fashion week.”

The CFDA Releases its NYFW Schedule, Will Monitor Omicron Impact
The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) has released its official New York Fashion Week calendar for the upcoming fall ’22 season. Running February 11 to February 16, the council is partnering for the second time with IMG on its American Collections calendar.
Time slots are filled with many of the usual names: Christian Siriano, Anna Sui, Prabal Gurung, Coach, Tom Ford, Proenza Schouler, Tory Burch, Ulla Johnson, Gabriela Hearst and Jason Wu. But there are also a few names, such as Dauphinette, PatBO and Judy Turner. The calendar is also filled with names returning after a handful of seasons on hiatus from fashion weeks (pandemic-related and otherwise), including Dion Lee and Area, the latter of which will be releasing its collection with a digital showing along with press appointments. Brands holding showroom appointments include Veronica Beard, Jonathan Simkhai and Helmut Lang.
While NYFW’s spring ’22 season back in September 2021 still showed a hybrid calendar of in-person events and digital releases, this season’s schedule thus far is mostly in person, though the CFDA acknowledged in its press release the impact that the Omicron variant could have on schedule changes and will be posted any of them on its website as well as NYFW.com and FashionCalendar.com.
