Who's ready to extend their stay with The White Lotus season 2? While HBO's latest buzzworthy offering may have originally been presented as a six-episode limited series, HBO has now officially given the wickedly funny show about the staff and guests at a Hawaiian resort (where a mysterious death occurs) the green light for a second season.
For fans of White Lotus writer and director Mike White, the renewal may feel especially deserved after his previous HBO offering, the mental-breakdown dramedy Enlightened starring Laura Dern, was canceled after two seasons despite being critically acclaimed.
"Mike has once again delivered a quintessential HBO show, and it’s the talk of the town," HBO executive vice president of programming Francesca Orsi said in a statement. "We were thrilled to hear where he wanted to go next after closing this epic chapter in Hawaii, and can’t wait to keep following him wherever he takes us."

Will White Lotus have a season 2?
Yes—it's official! HBO has renewed The White Lotus for a second season. White has already given voice to some creative concerns about season 2, which he envisions as staying true to the original while also feeling fresh to fans.
"In TV, it's hard to start from scratch and go through the whole thing again," he said. "So, you feel like a bird in the hand is worth pursuing. So, I would do another season because I feel like there's a way to get at some new themes and do it in a way that feels fresh from this one."

Where was White Lotus season 2 filmed?
On Jan. 20, Variety reported that White Lotus was headed to Italy for season 2—specifically, to the resort town of Taormina, Sicily.
The outlet also claimed that, like season 1—which was filmed at Hawaii's Four Seasons Resort Maui—production on season 2 took place at a real-life Four Seasons property, called Four Seasons San Domenico Palace. And while that intel came from an unnamed source, corroborating evidence showed that the cast and crew were there too: The resort's homepage said the facility was closed to guests (except, presumably, fictional ones!) until April 1, 2022.
Before White Lotus' season 2 renewal was made official, White told Entertainment Weekly, "We would go somewhere different [for season 2] because there's no way we could be able to afford the Four Seasons in Maui... It would have to be TheWhite Lotus: Kyoto or something. Which would be fun too, because we could get into culture clash ideas and stuff like that."

Who's in The White Lotus cast for season 2?
One of the biggest draws to White Lotus season 1 was its all-star ensemble, which included Murray Bartlett, Connie Britton, Jennifer Coolidge, Alexandra Daddario, Jake Lacy, Natasha Rothwell, Jolene Purdy, Sydney Sweeney, Molly Shannon and Steve Zahn. Luckily for fans, White did tell IndieWire before season 2 production got underway that he thought there could be plausible ways to bring at least some of that season 1 cast back for more.

"I don't think you can credibly have [all the season 1 guests] on the same vacation again," he explained. "But maybe it could be a Marvel universe type thing, where some of them would come back." However, he added that there are also logistics to consider. "We only made one-year deals with the actors," he said. "So, we'd have to find out who is even available."

A trailer for The White Lotus season 2 dropped on Oct. 6, 2022. In it, we see Tanya suspicious that Greg may be cheating on her, Lucia "coming and going" with another friend (appearing to be escorts) from Dominic di Grasso's room, and Lucia partying hard with Cameron and Ethan. Harper laments to Ethan that she isn't thrilled with the new "friends" they have since Ethan got rich. We also see Ethan and Cameron wrestling violently underwater, as well as a quick glimpse at a gun—but not who's wielding it.

The final episode of The White Lotus season 1 aired on Aug. 15, 2021, and it revealed that Shane (Jake Lacy) killed Armond (Murray Bartlett). Shane already had it out for Armond for not booking the right suite for him and wife Rachel (Alexandra Daddario), but after Armond dropped a deuce in Shane's luggage, Shane attacked him with a knife.
