Warrior Nun will return as three films following Netflix cancellation

Warrior Nun fans please prepare yourself for some exciting news: despite being cancelled on Netflix after two seasons, series creator Simon Barry has confirmed the series will actually return - but as films.

The fantasy action series, which was inspired by the comic series of the same name, was incredibly popular with Netflix fans. Its second season regularly featured in the Top 10.

However, in December 2022 Simon Barry revealed the show will not be going ahead for a third season on Netflix. We were all very gutted by the news, but now Simon has revealed thanks to fan support, the series will continue elsewhere. Here's everything we know about Warrior Nun's cancellation and now exciting revival.

What will Warrior Nun 3 look like?

Rather than returning as a third series as initially thought, executive producer Dean English revealed on 16th August 2023 that it will actually be a trilogy of films. Sharing a video on his website, he said, "I am very happy to announce that Warrior Nun is coming back as a trilogy of motion pictures. Once again, a trilogy of feature films. Three.

He explained that due to union strikes in the US, which are impacting writers and actors, he wasn't able to share many more details, but that he was incredibly grateful to fans for all of their support. "It’s because of you and your incredible energy that we keep pushing forward to make these stories," he continued. "You guys really make it all worthwhile. So thank you so much for your continued support."

When was Warrior Nun confirmed to return?

On 28th June Simon Barry, the creator of Warrior Nun, took to his personal Twitter to share the exciting news Warrior Nun will eventually be returning one day thanks to the dedication of the series' fans.

He said: "Today I’m happy to officially report that because of your combined voices, passion and amazing efforts - #WarriorNun will return and is going to be more EPIC than you could imagine. More details to come! SOON! Thank-you!!"

When was Warrior Nun originally cancelled on Netflix?

The creator of Warrior Nun Simon Barry, shared the sad news the series was getting cancelled on his Twitter on 13th December 2021.

He tweeted: "I’ve just found out that @netflix will not be renewing #WarriorNun - my sincere appreciation to all the fans who worked so hard to bring awareness to this series, and for the love you showed me, the cast and the whole production team. It was a privilege to be a part of this."

Simon had previously shared his hope for multiple seasons, speaking to Inverse he said: "With Warrior Nun, I would give it a window because we’re still so early in the process of developing it. Anything between five and seven seasons would be lovely."

Alba Baptista, who played lead character Ava Silva, took to Twitter to thank fans for their support of the show, following its initial cancellation. She tweeted: "Working on Warrior Nun was a very special chapter of my life. Thank you to the cast and crew for giving everything they had. Thank you to the fans that loved and supported us. I see you and I love you. It was all for you. I’m forever grateful. ❤️"

Kristina Tonteri-Young who played Sister Beatrice shared a short and sweet tweet about her time on the show saying: "Thanks everyone for having me in your space it was a pleasure to hear your voices xx."
