Everything You Need to Know Before Watching the ‘This Is Us’ Season 3 Premiere
The time has come, dear This Is Us fans, to move forward from the emotional devastation of season two—ahem, Jack’s (Milo Ventimiglia) death—and on to the promise of season three. Yes, after a long wait, the time for the new season of the hit NBC show has finally come. So, before you tune in and reunite with the Pearsons tomorrow night, here are all the season three details you need to know.
The Premiere Date
The Big Three and company return to NBC tomorrow, Tuesday, September 25, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. We’re counting down the hours.

The Episode Count
This Is Us season three will bring us 18 cathartic episodes. Season two only had 16, so cha-ching.
The Spoilers
As with previous seasons, the Big Three and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) will be central to the plot. Season three will further explore the Pearsons’ lives in the wake of Jack’s death, and tug at our heartstrings with more present-day hypotheticals, natch.
Co-showrunner Elizabeth Berger shared that the upcoming season will also explore Rebecca and Miguel’s (Jon Huertas) relationship in greater detail and reveal how they ended up married. And don’t worry, Berger also said Jack will very much be a part of the show. Season three will delve into Jack’s time in the Vietnam War, as well as his relationship with his brother, Nick (Michael Angarano).
During a panel at SXSW in Austin, series creator Dan Fogelman also revealed that Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Zoe’s (Melanie Liburd) relationship will play a large role in the new season. He went on to share that there will not be any deaths. However, Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) will experience some marital issues, and Deja’s (Lyric Ross) father will enter the story line. We’ll also get to learn more about Beth’s backstory and will find out once and for all if Randall has a biological sibling. There will even be some new faces.
The Cliffhangers
Fogelman promised we’ll learn who adult Tess (Iantha Richardson) and old man Randall were talking about in the flash-forward scene in the season two finale. We’ll also get a better understanding of the severe depression Toby (Chris Sullivan) experienced in another finale flash-forward.
