Here’s Everything We Know About Season 3 of 'Outer Banks'
The wait for more Outer Banks is finally over. Everyone’s favorite teen drama premiered its second season today, and let us tell you, the drama, mystery, and murder are bigger and better.
In case you forgot what happened in the season one finale, here’s a refresher: after being falsely accused of Sheriff Peterkin’s death, John B. narrowly avoided the police by boating into a hurricane with his girlfriend Sarah (the only honest witness to the crime). The rest of the Pogues—Kie, JJ, and Pope—assumed the two were lost at sea. But the final clip before the end shows John B. and Sara boarding someone’s boat.
Flash-forward to season two: John B. and Sarah arrive in the Bahamas, in search of the gold Ward (Sarah’s father) stashed in their Bahamas beach house. The two run into trouble once locals find John B.’s warrant poster, which promises a cash award to whoever captures him and turns him into the police. Now, the pair are repeatedly chased by cops, bandits, and locals until they find a boat—with the aid of their new friend Cleo—and sail to Charlotte.
Turns out the rest of the Pogues are in Charlotte; they had received an anonymous message from Carla Limbrey, who promised they had evidence to clear John B.’s name. But Clara wants something in return: the Cross of Santo Domingo...which leads to more treasure? But of course, Ward steals it from them along with the original treasure Sarah and John B. were trying to steal back in Nassau.
This brings us to the season finale where Ward tries to kill his daughter (because she’s gone full-on Pogue), the Pogue group—John B., Sarah, Kie, JJ, Pope, and recently invited Cleo—are stranded on an island with no food or water, and we find out that John B.’s father is, in fact, alive!
With all that said, a season three is desperately needed. Here’s what we know.
Will there be a season 3 of Outer Banks?
There has not been confirmation that a season three is underway. But don’t worry. Considering how this Netflix drama is a fan-favorite and how season two ended on a cliffhanger, a season three is almost guaranteed. Plus, the show creator talked to Entertainment Weekly and revealed that he envisions Outer Banks having four to five seasons before concluding.
“Ever since we started, we always viewed it as something that was probably like a four-season, maybe five-season show, but definitely four seasons,” he said. “We’ve sort of long-arced it out pretty far. I’m just hoping that we get a chance to actually tell those stories.”
He also added that Netflix greenlit the production team to begin writing scripts for season two when season one premiered, so there’s no doubt that a season three is underway.
When will season 3 premiere?
Following the tradition of seasons one and two, season three will most likely premiere sometime next summer. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic, production could shut down, delaying season three. So, we could be looking at mid-summer to early fall.
What will season 3 be about?
Season three will feature the Pogues escaping the Caribbean island. How? We’re not sure. It will also follow Ward and his son Rafe—the Sheriff Peterkin's true murderer—and their promise to kill the Pogues, including his sister.
Though the show focuses mostly on action, adventure, mystery (and don’t forget the murder), you can expect some romance, especially with Cleo joining the group. Here’s hoping that Cleo and Pope will become the show’s No.1 couple—we're tired of sort-of married John B. and Sarah.
Lastly, you can expect the awaited reunion between John B. and his presumably deceased father. When that happens, tears are to be expected. It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for.
