Did we understand every plot point, piece of cockney dialogue, or guttural finance bro-ism in Season 1 of HBO’s Industry? No, we did not. Did we enjoy it? Um, does an FX options dealer hedge long gamma exposure by selling spot when it rises? The answer is yes, newbie. Now pick up our salad order.

Industry combined all the schadenfreude hazing of Suits with the frenetic party ecstasy of Euphoria. The result: a work-hard-play-hard exaggeration of young 20s ambition and a sobering look into the consequences of compromising one’s values for professional profit. Yes, while a show about rich kids who bang and betray everyone who showed them kindness—while that cutthroat Patagonia-vest capitalism might not seem like worthwhile viewing—the series ended with some satisfying truth bombs. Turns out working as a financial trader isn’t glorious after all. (Except for Harper’s penthouse hotel room. Goddamn, that view is worth every throat cut.)

Unfortunately the series wrapped in December (and for those watching on HBO Max, back in November), so the throat cutting is currently on hold. Fortunately, we're not done with the Pierpoint drama just yet. Here’s what HBO has planned for Industry’s future.

Will there be a Season 2 of Industry?

Um, does that same FX options dealer hedge long gamma exposure by buying spot when it falls? C’mon. Yes.

HBO’s Francesca Orsi summarized the network’s view on Season 1:

“[Creators] Mickey [Down] and Konrad [Kay] have captured an authentic, fresh angle on workplace culture from the bottom up and presented a complex look at navigating life in your early twenties – replete with thrills, failures and victories. It’s exciting to see fans embrace these young graduates, and we join them in anticipation of what’s in store for season two.”

Looks like we’re heading back to London for a second season.

When's Season 2 coming out?

We may have to wait a bit. There’s no word yet on when filming will begin on Season 2, though, as the first season was shot in London, filming will likely be delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions taken by the city. Season 1 premiered in November of 2020, but was filmed before the global pandemic.

We can cross our fingers for a fall 2021 Season 2 premiere, though 2022 is more likely. (Unless Industry adopts Euphoria’s minimalist filming techniques.)
