  • Savannah Guthrie of Today has been married to her husband, Michael Feldman, since 2014.

  • Feldman is the director of a communications firm and has worked for democratic presidential candidates.

  • Here's what we know about the couple, who are now raising two children.

On Thursday, October 15, Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie will moderate a town hall featuring President Donald Trump. It's her latest foray into the political spotlight: Last year, Guthrie moderated a Democratic presidential debate alongside Lester Holt and José Diaz-Balart.

Guthrie's husband of 11 years, Michael Feldman, 52, supports her through career highlights—as well as the drama of daily life. Speaking to Reveal in 2020, Guthrie, 48, named Feldman's quality that won her over when they first met: He's capable. "When we first started dating, he came over and fixed my toilet, which I found to be very attractive. Mike is extremely handy, which is one of the things I liked about him when I first met him. I thought, 'Wow, here's a sophisticated guy who grew up in the city but who can actually do things.'"

The couple has two children—Vale, 6, and Charles, 4. Here are a few key things to know about Feldman, besides the fact that he knows his way around a screwdriver.

Michael Feldman met Guthrie at his 40th birthday party.

Talk about a great gift! According to People, the couple met in 2008, when Guthrie tagged along to Feldman's birthday party with a mutual friend. This was shortly before Guthrie announced her divorce from her husband of four years, Mark Orchard. The couple began dating soon after Guthrie's divorce, and became engaged four years later in 2013. And in classic Today tradition, Feldman called in to the show for the live announcement!

"He actually got on one knee and I still thought we were just talking. Really, honestly," Guthrie joked on the show. "And then, he brought out the box and then I didn’t open it for a long time cause I was just overcome." Feldman, for his part, admitted, “It's not bad being the luckiest guy in the world.”

Feldman once worked for Vice President Al Gore.

He's a former Democratic political aide, and served as Al Gore's traveling chief of staff during the 2000 presidential election campaign. He now works as a consultant, per The Hollywood Reporter, and is the founding partner and managing director of The Glover Park Group, a communications, consulting, and advocacy firm.

According to THR, the firm gives "studios and filmmakers marketing advice for topical and controversial movies and TV shows," and Feldman himself has worked on promoting films including Captain Phillips, An Inconvenient Truth, and Fahrenheit 9/11.

Guthrie and Feldman announced that they were pregnant at their wedding.

The couple's wedding in March of 2014 was described by People as "an intimate gathering of 80 to 90 people," and those lucky attendees had a pretty major surprise in store. Midway through the reception, as the guests were sitting down to dinner, the DJ hit “play” on a recording of the NBC News “Special Report” music, an "insider" told People.

“Savannah looked at Mike, and said, ‘So, should we break some news? Okay. I—we—are four months pregnant!’ It was an explosive moment. Everyone was on their feet, cheering." Vale was born in August of 2014, while her younger brother Charles was born two years later in December of 2016.

On their fifth anniversary, Guthrie marked the occasion with a sweet Instagram post, writing, "How sweet it is to be loved by you, Michael Feldman. You make me happy every single day. And made all my dreams come true. Happy anniversary, @feldmike."

He wrote an incredibly sweet letter to his daughter, Vale.

Get ready to have your heart melted. Just a few months after Vale was born, Feldman penned a touching letter to his baby daughter, which was published on Today.com.

“There are so many things that I want to tell you,” he wrote. “I know that you can’t read right now, and I realize that you don’t understand what I am saying yet, but while we work on our communication and language skills, I want you to know a few things.” He went on to tell Vale how happy she had made him, and that she has already made him a better person.

"Most of all, you have made me profoundly grateful," he continued. "You don’t know this, but your mom and I weren’t sure we were going to be able to have you. Being on the older side for new parents, we thought it might be hard or take some real work to get this done. So, it was very exciting when we found out that you were on the way."

“Some people say that you look like me. I’m really sorry about that,” he joked later in the letter. "With genetics and a little bit of luck, I hope you will become more like your mother. You already have her beautiful blue eyes, a great albeit toothless smile, and an infectious laugh. But I hope you also get her kind heart, keen wit, analytical mind, strong morals, and the kind of joy for life and people that makes you someone that people really want to be around.”

Guthrie has called Feldman "the best dad ever."

And sure, maybe she's biased, but that letter alone is pretty strong evidence that he's in the running! Savannah went into more detail about what her husband is like as a father in a blog post for Today.

“When I see how Mike treats strangers, how he treasures and adores his family, how he has navigated some of the most intense and competitive work environments while never losing his honesty and grace and goodness, I feel thankful that this is the father figure our child will get to grow up watching and emulating,” she wrote.
