Rod Stewart has a lot of kids—and some of them are closer in age to his grandchildren than they are to each other.

He told Parade in 2010 that he became a better father in the 1990s when he deliberately focused more on his family than his music.

"I was working hard at my career when my eldest Kimberly and Sean were born. That was 30 years ago and I was still struggling, so consequently I didn't see as much of those two as I would like to have. But I think they would probably say Dad's made it up since," he said, adding that he didn't mind doing diaper duty when he wasn't touring.

The British crooner is well aware of the age differences between his kids and how it impacts his parenting, explaining to People in November 2021, "I have to be several different fathers because of the different age groups of my kids. You really have to treat all of them as individuals with individual problems."

He added, "All the [older] kids went through their little bad period of drinking too much and dabbling in drugs—except for Liam; I don't think he ever did—but they all came out on the other side. As a dad, I've learned to listen and not blow my top."

As for what brings the "Maggie May" singer the most joy in life, it's Rod Stewart's kids and wife.

"I couldn't ask for anything better," he told People. "What makes me happiest now is seeing all my kids and my wife with big smiles on their faces."

"She was put up for adoption when I was 17 or 18, I think," he said on The Joy Behar Show in 2010 (via People). "I was absolutely stone broke … and so she was put up for adoption."

Since then, Stewart and Streeter have bonded, and she holds no resentment towards him.

"There's no anger there. I never was angry about what happened really, just sad," she told The Daily Mail. "But now I'm older, I see things differently and realize that it has been as difficult for him over the years as it has been for me. Now we're at the start of a new chapter, and that's wonderful."

Stewart concurred, telling Behar that he and Streeter have grown closer since her adoptive parents died.

"I never felt like I was her dad, because I didn't take her to school, change her nappies, there was no paternal thing there," he admitted. "But I'm trying."
