From Oprah Magazine

  • Jwan Yosef is a Syrian-born Swedish painter and artist who also happens to be Ricky Martin’s husband.

  • Yosef and Martin have been together for three years and recently welcomed a daughter, Lucia Martin-Yosef.

  • Here are all of the facts you wanted to know about Martin's partner.

Some of Hollywood’s sweetest couples keep their relationship rather private (looking at you, Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk), but Ricky Martin and husband Jwan Yosef don’t fit into that space at all.

Their relationship flourished on social media, and Yosef, a Syrian-born Swedish painter and artist with Kurdish and Armenian ancestry, often showcases his artistic process and snaps of life at home to his 568,000 Instagram followers. The couple have been married since 2018, and in December of last year welcomed a baby girl, Lucia Martin-Yosef. Together, they're also raising Martin's 10-year-old twins, Matteo and Valentino.

With each picture they post, it's clear that three years into their relationship their love seems stronger than ever. And while Martin may be the more famous of the pair, Yosef is definitely one to follow.

Jwan Yosef was born in Syria and raised in Sweden.

According to his website, Yosef was born in 1984 in Syria, where he attended the Pernby School of Painting and Konstfack University College of Arts. He has an MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins in London, where he currently resides. He goes back and forth between London and Los Angeles, according to his Instagram.

In addition, Yosef is a founding member of The Bomb Factory Art Foundation in London, a non-profit committed to supporting and advancing contemporary artists at all stages of their careers. Since 2007, his work has been featured in dozens of both solo and group exhibitions, racking up awards along the way—just like his Grammy-winning husband.

During an interview with SiriusXM Radio Andy, Martin told Andy Cohen that he and Yosef first came in contact on Instagram, when he happened upon the artist’s work in his feed.

“I’m scrolling and I see this beautiful piece of art and I’m like, ‘Whoa, how cool! Who’s this?’ Then I start checking and all of a sudden I’m like, ‘Ooh, ooh.’ And then I wrote to him,” Martin said.

But they took things slow, communicating via DM (the modern-day love letter) for six months before ever speaking. “We talked about art—nothing sexy...I swear, nothing sexy. It was all about art and life in general. He used to live in London, I went to London and I met him," Martin said.

The pair made their red carpet debut as a couple in April 2016 at the amFAR Inspiration Gala in Sao Paolo, Brazil, where Martin confirmed their relationship with the simplest of Instagram captions: “Yup.”

Things sped up from there. Martin announced their engagement on a November 2016 episode of the Ellen Degeneres Show after more than a year of dating. Martin gushed about the event, revealing the unconventional way he went about proposing: “I proposed. I was really nervous. But I got on my knees and I took out—not a box—I just had them in a little velvet pouch.”

Martin continued, “Instead of saying, ‘Will you marry me?’ I said, ‘I got you something.’ I said, ‘I want to spend my life with you.’ And he was like, ‘What is the question?’ [I said] ‘Would you marry me?'”

Martin exclusively told E! News in January 2018 that they married in a private ceremony. "I'm a husband, but we're doing a heavy party in a couple of months, I'll let you know," he said. The two hadn’t had a formal celebration, but the singer wanted the world to know that a wedding isn't necessary to be married—they’d taken care of the basics. "We exchanged vows, and we've swear [sic] everything, and we've signed all the papers that we needed to sign, prenups and everything."

Together, Yosef and Martin are raising three children.

In the best New Year present ever, Yosef and Martin announced via Instagram they had welcomed a baby girl, Lucia Martin-Yosef, in December 2018. They were already parents to 10-year-old twin boys Matteo and Valentino, who Martin welcomed via surrogate.

According to Martin, he’s hoping for a whole band of kids. “I want four more pairs of twins. I would love to have a big family, but there’s a lot going on at this moment, a lot of work, wedding,” Martin said to People. “It’s a lot going on so we’re going to put things in order first and then we are going to get ready for many more kids.”

Three kids, six kids, 20 kids, whatever it is—Yosef and Martin seem like a pretty stellar couple.
