Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club Series: Everything We Know So Far

Long before they were trying to decide who was a Carrie, a Miranda, a Charlotte, or a Samantha in a friend group, many women of a certain age labeled themselves as a Kristy, a Dawn, a Mary Anne, a Stacey, or a Claudia—all thanks to the massively popular The Baby-Sitters Club books by Ann M. Martin, the first of which was published in 1986. The books follow a group of young friends who start a baby-sitting service, and all the ups and downs of their business and lives.

Netflix announced in 2019 that it’s adapting the books into series starring Alicia Silverstone. With more than 200 books currently in publication, the streaming platform will certainly not lack in source material for storylines.

No word yet on how—if at all—this new series will nod to the 1995 film version of The Baby-Sitters Club, which starred Rachael Leigh Cook, Schuyler Fisk, Larisa Oleynik, Bre Blair, Stacy Linn Ramsower, Zelda Harris, and Tricia Joe in the lead roles.

Netflix dropped the official trailer on June 22, and if this doesn’t give you all the feels, nothing will. From camping in the wilderness and Elizabeth Thomas’s wedding, it’s the perfect ode to summer, family, and friends during this anything-but-normal time. Watch below:

This follows the first teaser for the show, which Netflix released in early May 2020. It didn’t give away much, but we did get our first look at the group answering the phone in their “office.” Also, just seeing that classic and familiar Baby-Sitters Club font we all know so well got us excited all over again.

While we don’t have a ton of details yet, here’s everything we know so far.

The release date: The teaser trailer also revealed the show will start streaming July 3.

The location: Just like the books, the show will take place in the fictional town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut.

The cast: The actors playing Kristy Thomas, Mary Anne Spier, Claudia Kishi, Stacey McGill, and Dawn Schafer have not been announced. However, we do know that Alicia Silverstone will play Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer, the mother of Kristy Thomas, and Royal Pains star Mark Feuerstein will play her love interest turned husband, Watson Brewer.
