Nicholas Galitzine and Anne Hathaway Spotted Filming the Movie Based on Harry Styles Fan Fiction

2022 is a big year for Harry Styles in film — his psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling debuted in September, while his romantic drama My Policeman hits theaters in October. Now a new project is in the works, and although it doesn’t directly involve Harry, it’s based on The Idea of You, a novel by Robinne Lee believed to be inspired by the pop star.

According to Deadline, the film adaptation of the book centers around 40-year-old Sophie, whose husband has left her for a younger woman and has canceled the Coachella trip he was supposed to take with their 15-year-old daughter, Izzy. Sophie decides to take Izzy to the music festival instead, and while there, she meets 24-year-old Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of a boy band named August Moon.

Although we’ll likely have to wait a bit for the film’s release, we’re already poring over the details. Here, we explain everything you need to know about the film adaptation of The Idea of You, from release date to cast news and trailers and more.

Who stars in The Idea of You?

We have our leading lady. On August 25, it was confirmed by multiple outlets that Anne Hathaway will star as Sophie. The Devil Wears Prada and Princess Diaries star also serves as a producer on the film, alongside author Robinne Lee, Cathy Schulman, and actress Gabrielle Union.

On September 19, Deadline reported that Nicholas Galitzine will star opposite Anne as Hayes Campbell, the pop star Sophie falls for. Nicholas has most recently starred in Cinderella, Purple Hearts, and will soon appear in Prime Video’s highly anticipated film, Red, White & Royal Blue.Other boy band members include Jaiden Anthony, Raymond Cham, Vik White, and Dakota Adan, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Variety announced on October 20 that four new characters have been added to the project. Reid Scott (Veep), plays Sophie’s estranged husband, Dan. Annie Mumolo (Bridesmaids, Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar), Perry Mattfeld (Shameless), and Jordan Aaron Hall (Pose, The Equalizer) join in yet-to-be-named roles.

Ella Rubin (Gossip Girl, The Girl from Plainville)plays Sophie and Dan’s teenage daughter, Izzy.

Michael Showalter, the writer behind Wet Hot American Summer and director of The Big Sick, will direct the project.

Has The Idea of You started filming?

Yes! Deadline previously reported that production began in October, and per new photos published by Just Jared Jr., Nicholas and Anne are getting cozy as their characters on set in Savannah, Georgia. In one pic, Nicholas wraps his arm around Anne’s shoulders as she leans into him with a small smile on her face. In other shots, they walk side-by-side, in character, holding hands. Anne stuns in a black top, midi skirt, sunnies, and stilettos, while Nicholas sports khakis, a white tank under a blue short-sleeve button-down, a baseball cap, and sunglasses.

Is there a release date set for The Idea of You?

No, a premiere date has not been scheduled for the film just yet. Since production just began in October, it’s likely that The Idea of You will drop sometime in 2023. However, we do know that it’ll debut on Prime Video — subscriptions for the streaming service start at $8.99/month.

Will Harry Styles be in The Idea of You?

There’s been no word on whether or not Harry will make an appearance in the film. However, it doesn’t seem very likely. Back in December 2020, author Robinne Lee told Vogue that The Idea of You “was never supposed to be a book about Harry Styles.”

“It was supposed to be a story about a woman approaching 40 and reclaiming her sexuality and rediscovering herself, just at the point that society traditionally writes women off as desirable and viable and whole,” she continued.

Harry has delved deeper into the acting world recently, so it wouldn’t be all too surprising to see him grace the screen once again in this film. For now, we’ll just have to keep an eye on casting announcements.
