Many people often forget this, but Wesley Snipes' Blade kicked off the modern comic book movie trend back in 1998. Now, over two decades later, Marvel is ready to finally introduce Blade to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The character is set to star in a solo film. Not surprisingly, Marvel hasn't revealed much about the new MCU Blade yet, but here's everything we know about it so far.

Who is playing Blade in the MCU?

Mahershala Ali will make his full debut as Blade in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film. The character had a voice-only cameo during an end-credit scene in Eternals.

When is Blade coming out (MCU)?

Blade is scheduled to release on Sept. 6, 2024. The film was originally scheduled to release at the end of 2023, but was pushed back by Marvel Studios when the film had to change directors.

How will Blade fit in the MCU?

It is unclear how exactly Blade will fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Based on the end credit scene in Eternals, however, he may have some connection to some characters from that film. It's also been speculated that he'll have some involvement with Jack Russell from Werewolf by Night.

Is Blade a hero or a villain?

Blade is traditionally depicted as a hero. While he may be a bit hard-edged or grumpy, he still works to protect humanity from vampires, which is generally considered a good thing to do.

Was Blade bitten by Morbius?

In Peter Parker: Spider-Man #8 (1999), Morbius bit Blade. The bite resulted in the comic version of Blade obtaining vampiric powers similar to his film counterpart. Prior to this, the comic version of Blade didn't have any powers except for being immune to vampire bites.

Is Blade going to be in the MCU?

Blade is scheduled to be released on Sept. 6, 2024. The film will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the character will likely make appearances in other MCU projects as a result.

How powerful is Marvel's Blade?

The comic version of Blade is generally as powerful as a vampire, although he is able to walk in the sun (hence his "Daywalker" nickname). It is unknown yet if the MCU version of Blade will have similar abilities.

Who is playing Blade in 2023?

Mahershala Ali will play Blade in the 2024 film. Ali previously played Cottonmouth in the Netflix Luke Cage series and voiced the Prowler in Sony's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Mahershala Ali will star as the titular Daywalker vampire hunter Blade. Snipes gave Ali his blessing, tweeting that the Oscar winner will "do great" in the role, a gesture that moved Ali deeply.

“Man, you know, humbled and so encouraged by that,” Ali said on The Breakfast Club in December 2021. “Because he didn’t have to say that. Wasn’t nobody really asking him like that. So for him to come out and say that, somebody I look up to so much, I sincerely appreciated that. So thank you, brother.”

Delroy Lindo

Iconic actor Delroy Lindo will be in Blade, though his role hasn't yet been disclosed. He previously played Dominic Fortune in the 2016 pilot Marvel's Most Wanted, and that character worked with Ulysses Bloodstone in the comics. It's not yet known if Lindo will play Dominic Fortune in Blade or if he will play a different character, especially since the pilot unfortunately didn't air or get picked up. (After all, Ali is playing a different character than his prior Marvel appearance in Luke Cage!)

Lindo most recently starred in Hulu's UnPrisoned.

Aaron Pierre

Aaron Pierre plays an as-yet-unknown role in Blade. He recently played Malcolm X in Genius and starred in the Krypton and The Underground Railroad series.

How does Blade fit into the Eternals?

An end-credit scene in Eternals depicted Dane Whitman (Kit Harington) opening a box containing a weapon known as the Ebony Blade. Blade can then be heard asking a surprised Whitman if he's ready for the weapon.

How strong will Blade be in MCU?

Marvel Studios has not revealed how strong Blade will be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The previous film version had superhuman strength due to his vampiric birth.

Blade made a voice-only cameo in Eternals. During an end-credit scene, he could be heard asking Dane Whitman if he was ready for the Ebony Blade.
