You heard it here first: Netflix's Do Revenge may just be the Gen Z movie of the century. Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (who brought us the cultural reset rom-com, Someone Great, FYI), the dark comedy follows Drea and Eleanor, two teenage girls who are itching to get revenge on their tormentors and abusers. The protagonists are played by teen television royalty — Maya Hawke, who plays the snarky and relatable Robin on Stranger Things, and Camila Mendes, who has brought Archie Comics' Veronica to life on Riverdale for 7 seasons (!!).

So, if you're looking for all the details on this masterpiece from its cast and plot to its release date and trailers, you're in the right place. Here's everything you need to know about Maya Hawke and Camila Mendes' new movie, Do Revenge, coming to Netflix.

What is Do Revenge about?

As we mentioned earlier, Do Revenge is a story about, well, revenge. The official synopsis provided by Netflix is as follows:

After a clandestine meet-cute, Drea (Alpha, fallen it girl) and Eleanor (beta, new alt girl) team up to go after each other’s tormentors. Do Revenge is a subverted Hitchcock-ian dark comedy featuring the scariest protagonists of all: teenage girls.

"We backwards-engineered this story of revenge off of: What would it be like to take the fun, thrillery stakes of a Hitchcock movie and put it in high school?" director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson told ELLE in a July 2022 interview. According to the outlet, queen bee Drea (Camila Mendes) wants to get back at her boyfriend for leaking an explicit video of herself while transfer student Eleanor (Maya Hawke) was outed thanks to a rumor that she forcefully tried to hold a girl down and kiss her. After an unlikely meeting, they decide to join forces to deal with each other's "dirty laundry."

Jennifer also told ELLE that "there are different points where everyone's the villain and everyone's the hero" in the film. "And that is so much of what growing up is. I wanted to make something that paints with all the colors of adolescence," she told the outlet.

Who's in the Do Revenge cast?

Buckle up, because Do Revenge is clad with an all-star cast from basically every teen/Gen Z show that's taken us by storm. Of course, our leading ladies are Stranger Things' Maya Hawke and Riverdale's Camila Mendes.

"I will say, in Camila's tape, I paused it at about maybe five seconds in, picked up the phone, and called Peter Cron and [producer] Anthony Bregman and said, 'We have Drea.' It's Camila," Jennifer told Elle. "I literally didn’t even finish. I watched her say, like, four lines and I was like, 'And that's it.' And I started crying." She was also immediately sold on Maya as Eleanor and even changed the movie's location to Atlanta so there wouldn't be scheduling conflicts with filming for Stranger Things 4, which was taking place around the same time.

Alongside Maya and Camila is an ensemble made up of teen television royalty — we're talking stars from Euphoria, Love, Victor, and Outer Banks. Austin Abrams (Euphoria) takes on the role of Drea's try-hard woke ally ex, Max; 13 Reasons Why's Alisha Boe stars as Drea's bestie, Tara; and Jonathan Daviss from OBX plays Max's friend, Elliot. The rest of the cast of "Young Hollywood Avengers" features Ms. Marvel star Rish Shah as Russ, Love, Victor's Ava Capri as Carissa, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin star Maia Reficco as Montana, Alexa & Katie's Paris Berelc as Meghan, and Talia Ryder of Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Always as Gabbi. The movie also features a cameo from Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner (!!). What 👏 a 👏 lineup 👏!

Is there a trailer for Do Revenge?

The official trailer for Do Revenge is set to drop the week of August 8, according to Camila and Netflix's Instagram posts on August 4. Camila posted a teaser for the dark comedy, which she captioned, "Trailer drops next week 👀💖 ." For a short clip, we can see a whole lot of revenge going on.

"He's a fake woke, misogynist hypocrite," Camila voices over a series of shots of Austin walking through the halls of their school. The teaser also shows us a glimpse of a schoolyard brawl, a chunk of cut hair, and a paint fight. From what we can see, if anyone does revenge right, it's got to be Drea and Tara of Do Revenge.

How about photos?

Yep! There are a few photos of the cast that give us a glimpse into the high school dark comedy. Can we talk about Maya and Camila's ✨glittery glam✨ outfits, though? We're already stoked about this movie for that scene alone!

When does Do Revenge come out?

Do Revenge is set to hit Netflix on September 16, 2022 at 12 a.m. PST/3 a.m. EST.
