With the original Gossip Girl series, things got a little off the rails—to put it lightly—as the show went on. One day Blair Waldorf was a high schooler kicking people off the steps of the Met, the next thing you know she’s marrying a prince from Monaco who secretly hates her. But will the new Gossip Girl revival series meet a similar fate? Part two of season 1 premieres on Thursday, and as the show goes beyond this season, we could see something as wild as, say, one of the new characters having an affair with one of the OGs. Much crazier things have happened in this series.

But before you go getting all your hopes up, we have some pertinent info on what's next for the Upper East Siders. Dig in below to get every ounce of intel on Gossip Girl season 2.

Is Gossip Girl 2.0 coming back for a second season?

It looks like HBO decided to give us an early Christmas present because Gossip Girl has officially been renewed for a second season, according to Deadline. While the show still has to air the second half of season 1, we might not have to wait too long for it to come back after that.

There’s also another fun incentive for fans of the original. In an interview with the Daily Beast before the second season was confirmed, showrunner Joshua Safran, who was also an executive producer on the original series, said that original cast members could return if there is a second season. Safran had already made clear that this show exists in the same world as the original, so Serena, Blair, Nate, and everyone else still exist and are going about their 30something business.

Okay, great. So what about cameos from the OG version? Are we getting them in season 2?

Safran explained that he didn’t want the new characters to live “in the shadow of the original characters” and that bringing any of the main cast back for quick cameos in season 1 would just leave viewers wanting more. “The decision was: Let’s get season 1 under our belt, and should we get season 2, we’ll have the chance to bring in cameos that are more than glorified cameos but actually give them storylines,” Safran said. That said, there will be cameos from original cast members in season 1 but not from series regulars. (Dorota? Will it be Dorota?)

In another interview, this one with the Hollywood Reporter, Safran talked about how he came to the decision to work on the revival after being hesitant, and part of it was knowing that he could get his vision out there, even if only for 12 episodes.

“I was like, ‘You know what, I’d like to do some things we were unable to do the first time around,’” Safran said. “And that’s what kept me up at night—a more inclusive show, a more queer show, looking at how social media has changed in the 12 years since the original Gossip Girl—and then I couldn’t get that out of my head. And that made me be like, ‘Sure, it’s 12 episodes.’ Maybe that’s all it’ll be, but I’m really glad to look at it in a new way. It’s different than most reboots.”

And yes, one member is officially making their big return. Safran confirmed to Teen Vogue that Michelle Trachtenberg will be back as Georgina Sparks and she is ready to start some shit as usual. And yes, she'll even give an update on some other faves.

"Where she's introduced has a tie to the first show that I love, that is so funny, and it relates to characters from the original show, and she just has this little run of dialogue about how she's been interacting with characters from the original show in the last 15 years. It's one of my favorite parts of this whole season," Safran said.

When is Gossip Girl finally coming back for season 2?

The series will be officially back on December 1, over a year after the original season premiered. At least there won't be a wait in between as this season won't be split into two different parts, so at least there's that!
