Everything We Know About The Genshin Impact Anime

Genshin Anime teaser Paimon

Genshin Impact is one of the most popular games on the planet, thanks to its free-to-play price point, gorgeous aesthetics, and fantastic storytelling. Despite the massive fan fervor for the game, especially in Japan, where it’s massively popular, somehow HoYoverse have yet to release an anime tie-in for the game.

Thankfully, one has been announced, to the joy of Genshin Impact fans all around the world, and we do actually have a decent amount of information about the series already. We’ve gone all over the internet to bring you every detail that’s currently available about the Genshin Impact anime, including its release date, production studio, plot, and more.

Genshin Impact Anime: Production Studio

The Genshin Impact anime is being produced by hot-shot animation studio Ufotable, which has a long history of high quality animation, especially anime based on games. The studio has worked on series like Demon Slayer and Fate/Zero, as well as video game anime like God Eater, Tales of Zestiria, and cutscenes for a bunch of games.

HoYoverse does obviously have its own in-house animation team, and they do fantastic work, but there’s no doubt that Ufotable is one of the best in the business for a production like this.

Genshin Impact Anime: Characters and Plot

So far, HoYoverse and Ufotable have been very tight-lipped about what, exactly, the Genshin Impact anime will be about. We can probably assume it will somewhat follow the story of the game to some degree, but how closely is anyone’s guess.

Paimon will, of course, feature in the Genshin Impact anime.
HoYoverse

What we do know is that the series will include Aether and Lumine, the two playable protagonists siblings from the game, as well as Paimon, the cutesy guide who never shuts up. Other than that, we could only really speculate, since we don’t know a great deal about the anime’s plot in general. The trailer for the anime also showed an area that looked pretty similar to Dragonspine and Mondstadt, the game’s starting area, so expect a story that involves Venti, the in-disguise Anemo Archon.

Genshin Impact Anime: Trailers

So far only one trailer has been released for the upcoming Genshin Impact anime, a three-minute concept trailer released during a livestream for the 3.1 update for the game. The trailer shows off both Aether and Lumine, as mentioned above, as well as Paimon, along with some incredible backdrops and animation. It doesn’t give us much more information than that, since it’s just a concept trailer, but it’s a nice glimpse at what we can expect from the series in the future. Watch for yourself below.

Genshin Impact Anime: Release Date

And we come to the unfortunate part, the release date — or lack of a release date. All we’ve had so far is the announcement and the teaser trailer, and neither of those suggested any kind of release date or release window. As we near the end of 2023 (where has the time gone?) we can probably safely assume that we won’t be seeing the anime this year. Maybe next year, hey?
