Warning: ‘Supernatural’ Is Switching Nights on The CW
Well, SPN fam, it’s been a nice, long road trip in Baby for the past 15 years, but it’s time for Sam and Dean Winchester to close the trunk for good. It’s true: Back in March, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins stunned fans when they announced that season 15 would be their last. As much as I wanted the possibility of a spin-off to be true, it looks like the brothers and their guardian angel have only until the end of this season to right all of Chuck’s big season-finale wrongs.
Here’s everything we know about the 15th and final season of The CW hit series, which began airing in October.
Wait...it’s switching dates?!
Yep, but you don’t have to worry about that until 2020. Supernatural will be moving (one last time) to 8 p.m. ET Mondays, starting March 16, immediately followed by the second season of Roswell, New Mexico.
Okay, the rest of this post is news from before the premiere, but you should definitely read through in case you missed anything important!

I’m not okay.
Two Adams?! Possible Samifer?! More scary Chuck?! What the hell is going on? The part that really got me, though, is this exchange between Chuck and...someone. I can’t quite tell who the female voice is (I have a feeling it’s Becky), but her convo with God has me shook:
Voice: You can’t do this to the fans! It’s awful...horrible...hopeless.
Chuck: I can do anything. I’m a writer.
Honestly, the Supernatural writers to the SPN Family every single year....

How many episodes?
Just like season 14, this season will be shortened from the usual 22/23 episodes to 20 episodes.
The world really is ending.
In a sneak peak of “The Winchester Mythology: The Choices We Make,” a season 14 digital featurette, Entertainment Weekly revealed this quote from showrunner Andrew Dabb:
“God was not kidding when he said it was the end of this story. And by the end of this story, it means the end of the world. The question of what that looks like, the question of how Sam and Dean deal with that, I think those are the big things that we’re going to explore going into season 15.”
Yes, the old monsters really came back....
Jensen confirmed what we all saw in the finale. “The world has just opened up, essentially, and all of those things that we have spent so many years fighting, they’re going to come knocking now,” he says in that same featurette. “It’s going to be an all-out free-for-all. In my opinion, they’re teeing up what could possibly be the best season of the show.”

At the TCAs, Jensen and Jared teased how the boys will deal with such a massive blow. Jensen says it comes down to one question: “Basically, is everything we’ve done our whole lives now erased—eradicated—because these things are back?”

My heart literally plummeted to my feet when Dean realized everything he’s ever won against might be back. I knew it was coming, but still. I have a mini heart attack every time I forget to save a new sentence in an article and exit the doc too quickly. ALL THAT WORK.
I joke because “welcome to the end” got me in my feelings and I’m not ready to fully deal with them yet.
But that’s good news for Adam!!!
Not many details about his return were revealed at Comic Con, but we do know Adam is back and still being played by Jake Abel. We last saw him go into the pit in season 5, and he’s been presumably stuck in the cage with this world’s Michael ever since. The final trailer features two Adams, and I have no idea what that means.
But not John Winchester...
Jeffrey Dean Morgan gave John Winchester a “pretty perfect” goodbye in the last season, according to the showrunner. Fiiiiine.
So, will Claire Novak (Kathryn Newton) return?
One question on a lot of fans’ minds is whether fan favorite Claire Novak will get a real goodbye in the final season. They’re right to be concerned. Kathryn is a busy woman, what with The Society, Big Little Lies, and the new Pokémon franchise.
I can tell you that Kathryn is working hard to make it happen. “I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about that, but I want to be back and I’ve made it clear that I want to,” she told Cosmo. “I think [the SPN family] feels like I left, but that’s just not true. Like, I didn’t leave.”
It’s all gonna come down to scheduling. That said, she does have an idea of what might happen to the rebel hunter, although of course she can’t say. “So she’s still a hunter for sure. And she’s still out there in the universe,” she teases. “I would love to wrap up that story line. That show is my favorite.”
Who’s even alive?
Okay, let’s start with the big ones: Sam, Dean, and Castiel are still alive, although we’ll have to wait to find out how they escape the swarm of Zombies. Maybe it’s time to bring in Negan from The Walking Dead?
Jack is technically dead but in the Empty. Death (aka Billie) wants to talk, and the Empty itself seems to be on board as well.
As for our other survivors: We’ve still got Jody, the other world’s Bobby, the other world’s Charlie, Alex, Claire, Patience, Donna, evil (?) Kaia, Max Banes, Alicia Banes (kind of), and Garth on board to help out. Not to mention all the demons and monsters raised by Chuck. (Oh, and Lisa and Ben are out there somewhere with their memories wiped, still haven’t forgotten about them!)
Personally, I’m hoping for a reappearance of our missing antichrist Jesse. I know fans are all wondering why I haven’t mentioned Crowley, but let’s be honest, Mark Sheppard has made it very clear he won’t be returning.

Is there a big bad?
Chuck, duh.
There will be a very special guest star.
EW announced that Christian Kane (aka Lindsey McDonald on Angel) will be featured in an episode of season 15 as a former hunter and a friend of Dean’s (likely during the Stanford era). This is kind of perfect considering Christian and Jensen have been friends for longer than Supernatural has been on the air.
How’s it all going to end?
IDK, but this sounds ominous AF. “When we were in the room and the idea came down the pipe, everybody was kind of signed off on it,” Jensen Ackles said at SDCC. “My reaction was more like, ‘Okay, okay.’ I struggled with it for about a week or so, and then I realized I’m too invested, I’m too emotional. I’m too close to this character. To see anything with finality on it, it’s just hard to digest. I talked to a few people about it and got some clarity on it and have tried to look at it from a different perspective. I, now, have come around to being like, ‘This is a really good ending. This is satisfying.’”
But at TCAs, Jensen was a bit more hype. “I want it to do justice to what we’ve built for the past 14 and a half years, and right now I think the game plan we have is going to do just that,” he said during the panel. “You’re not going to please everybody—you just can’t—but for the majority of the fans that have been with us on this journey, it’s going to feel right and it’s going to feel good. I know that’s how I feel and I’m still excited to tell that story.”
The good news? Creator Eric Kripke has signed off on the finale, so that’s something. Excuse me, I need to go cry again.
