It’s time to say goodbye to Connie the Hormone Monstress, because Big Mouth will soon be over for good—and the kids of Bridgeton Middle School will finally be moving on.

Netflix renewed the animated series for its eighth and final season in April 2023, six months before the seventh season’s premiere. While middle school in the United States typically lasts only three years, the Big Mouth kids have spent seven in the interminable hell of puberty. By the end of Season 7, however, they finally made it to high school.

“If you would have told adolescent Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg that middle school would take eight years to finish, they would have been like, ‘Yeah, that sounds about right. This seems like it will never end,’” co-creator and star Kroll quipped to Netflix’s Tudum blog in April 2023.

While Big Mouth is a very silly show that features characters like the Ghost of Duke Ellington and a dog named Featuring Pitbull, it’s also critically acclaimed, having won three Emmys since its 2017. Maya Rudolph has won two Emmys for voicing Connie and is up for a third at the 2024 edition of the awards show. (She was also nominated in 2022 but lost to the late Chadwick Boseman for What If…?)

​​”I’m so happy that something I helped create has a life of its own,” Rudolph told The Hollywood Reporter in July 2022, calling it “surreal” to have won such accolades for Connie. “I’ve never seen more tattoos of any character I’ve ever done.”

What is Big Mouth Season 8 about?

At the end of Season 7, our pubescent heroes had graduated from middle school and were entering the next horrible chapter of their lives: high school. Nick and Andrew’s friendship was on the rocks after Nick befriended a second Andrew at his new school, while Jessi had fallen in with older girl Lulu. Missy, meanwhile, has decided to use her time in high school to explore her sexuality, and Matthew is thriving now that his family has accepted he’s gay.

All of which is to say that the Big Mouth gang is likely in for more cha-a-a-anges as their high school journey continues in Season 8. At least they’ll have their hormone monsters to guide them along the way!

Who is in the Big Mouth Season 8 cast?

Nick Kroll (Nick Birch, Maury the Hormone Monster, Coach Steve and more)

Kroll’s prolific voice acting resume also includes the Big Mouth spinoff Human Resources as well as Bob’s Burgers, Crank Yankers and more. On the live-action front, Kroll has appeared in Don’t Worry Darling, Dickinson, Our Flag Means Death, and History of the World, Part II. He’s next set to appear in the 2024 Christmas action film Red One.

John Mulaney (Andrew Glouberman)

Mulaney’s other voice acting work includes the role of Spider-Ham in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. On TV, his recent guest roles include The Bear, Bupkis and Dickinson. His latest stand-up special, Baby J, premiered on Netflix in 2023.

Jessi Klein (Jessi Glaser)

Klein, who is primarily a writer and stand-up comedian, is also a consulting producer on Big Mouth. Her second book, I'll Show Myself Out: Essays on Midlife and Motherhood, debuted in 2022.

Jason Mantzoukas (Jay Bilzerian)

Mantzoukas other voice work includes roles in Dolittle, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Star Trek: Prodigy and Obliterated. Since December 2023, he has appeared as Dionysus in the Disney+ adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Ayo Edebiri (Missy Foreman-Greenwald)

Edebiri had a busy 2023, starring in Bottoms and Theater Camp and voicing characters in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. She also reprised her role as Sydney in Season 2 of Hulu’s The Bear. She is expected to return for Season 3, which is likely to start production in early 2024.

Andrew Rannells (Matthew)

Rannells voiced Veneer in the 2023 film Trolls Band Together after lending his vocals to Central Park, The Great North, Invincible and more. On TV, he recently appeared in Kroll’s History of the World, Part II and played Bradford Barton on Welcome to Chippendales. Since October 2023, he has starred on Broadway in Gutenberg! The Musical alongside his former The Book of Mormon costar Josh Gad.

Maya Rudolph (Connie the Hormone Monstress)

The Saturday Night Live alum’s most recent film credits include Disenchanted, Licorice Pizza and Good Burger 2. In addition to hosting the Peacock competition series Baking It, Rudolph has appeared on the Apple TV+ series Loot. She also voices Connie on Human Resources. In 2024, she’s set to star as a voice actor in IF.

Big Mouth boasts one of the most star-studded voice casts on TV, and it’s likely that many previous recurring characters will be back for the final season. Possible other cast members include Fred Armisen, Jordan Peele, Stephanie Beatriz, Richard Kind, Paula Pell, Gina Rodriguez, Mark Duplass, Chelsea Peretti, Chloe Fineman, Kristen Bell and Kristen Schaal.
