On June 29,2023, Netflix announced that they would be adapting the hit novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. The book has been a smash on TikTok, which means it's a success everywhere, and fans have been clamoring for a movie version while pondering their dream cast.

Reid's other wildly successful book Daisy Jones & The Six was turned into a TV show that has been very popular as well, so this choice is a no-brainer. Here's everything we know about the movie version so far.

What is the plot of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo?

The story is about imaginary Hollywood icon Evelyn Hugo, who is being interviewed by a writer about her life. In their press release, Netflix seems to be sticking pretty close to the book's plot so far.

“In a long awaited interview with a young journalist, Evelyn Hugo, an aging Hollywood starlet, pulls back the curtain on her seven marriages, and as she tells tales of Hollywood scandals, betrayals, and woe, she unveils shocking truths about her own life and the lives of everyone around her.”

You can spoil it for yourself more thoroughly by picking up the book.

Who is in the cast of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo?

So far, no one. But fans have been obsessed with the idea of Jessica Chastain starring as the redheaded Evelyn, and it got to the point where she had to address rumors that she turned down a “bad script.”

“I’ve been asked multiple times by fans, to sign books that I’m not attached to contractually,” she tweeted of readers asking for her to sign their book copy. “Because it feels wrong, and like I'm taking credit for someone else’s work, I’ll say I cant sign because I’m not doing it. That doesn’t mean I’ve read a bad script.”

That doesn't mean she wouldn't do it. She told Andy Cohen she'd read a script if one ever got sent her way.

Who is behind the scenes?

The team transforming the book into a script that might someday get sent to Jessica Chastain had been assembled. Leslye Headland has been set to direct, and she is known for Netflix's hit show Russian Doll, as well as films About Last Night and Sleeping With Other People. The script is being helmed by Liz Tigelaar, who helped translate the books Tiny Beautiful Things and Little Fires Everywhere onto the screen.
