Pack your swimsuit and throw on some sunscreen — we're heading to Cousins Beach for the summer with Prime Video's upcoming series The Summer I Turned Pretty, set to debut on the streaming platform on June 17.

Back in February 2021, Deadline reported that Jenny Han, the famous YA author, would have her novel The Summer I Turned Pretty turned into a television series for Amazon Prime. “The Summer I Turned Pretty is many years in the making, and I’m so excited to tell Belly’s story," Han told the outlet in a 2021 interview. “For the longtime book fans, I think it will have been worth the wait. For those newly discovering the Summer series, I hope you fall in love with these characters and this place that is so dear to my heart.”

This is not Han's first time having her work adapted for the screen. In 2018, Netflix adapted the To All the Boys trilogy starring Lana Condor as the lead, Lara Jean Covey. To All The Boys I've Loved Before, P.S. I Still Love You, and Always and Forever, Lara Jean each got an on-screen portrayal. And ICYMI, TATB's spin-off series, XO, Kitty, is also currently in production at Netflix, focusing on the complicated love life of Lara Jean's younger sister, Kitty.

Prepare to dive into the beachy-keen world of The Summer I Turned Pretty! Ahead, find everything we know so far about Jenny Han's latest book adaptation, including The Summer I Turned Pretty's cast list, plot details, sneak peeks, and upcoming news.

What is The Summer I Turned Pretty about?

Going off of the plot of the trilogy, The Summer I Turned Pretty tells the story of 16-year-old Isabel “Belly” Conklin as she spends her summers in the fictional beach town of Cousins Beach with her mom, older brother, and her mom's childhood best friend and her sons, Conrad and Jeremiah. As summer lazes by, Belly becomes wrapped up in a love triangle with the brothers.

"Relationships will be tested, painful truths will be revealed, and Belly will be forever changed. It’s a summer of first love, first heartbreak and growing up — it's the summer she turns pretty," Amazon Prime's official show title page reads.

For those who want to compare The Summer I Turned Pretty book to the series, you have just enough time to read the novel (and if you're a fast reader, the whole trilogy) before the June 17 release.

Who is in the cast of The Summer I Turned Pretty?

Newcomer Lola Tung has been cast as The Summer I Turned Pretty's lead role Belly Conklin, who is coming into her own after exiting her pre-teen awkward stage (pretty sure we've all been there!).

Rounding out the love triangle are actors Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno, who play the Fisher brothers Conrad and Jeremiah, respectively. Conrad is the brother Belly has always loved, and this summer she finally catches his eye. As for Jeremiah, their feelings for each other begin to blossom, surprising them both.

Actor Sean Kaufman portrays Steven, Belly's older brother, while Jackie Chung plays Belly's and Steven's mother, Laurel. Rachel Blanchard appears as Susannah Fisher, Conrad and Jeremiah's mother. Other featured cast members include Minnie Mills, Summer Madison, David Iacono, Rain Spencer, and Tom Everett Scott.

So, when's The Summer I Turned Pretty being released?

The eight-episode series is slated to debut on June 17, *just* in time for the start of summer! Don't have an account? No worries! Sign up for Amazon Prime before the show airs (it's only $14.99 a month!) and then head to the title page while logged in on June 17.

Is there a trailer for The Summer I Turned Pretty?

Yes! We finally have the official trailer for the series and our hearts are already racing. As Taylor Swift's “This Love” plays in the background, the two-minute clip provides a closer look inside the complicated love triangle that will unfold over the series' eight episodes. We see Belly, her brother, and her mom arrive for a summer of fun at Cousins Beach, where Conrad and Jeremiah's mom reveals that she's scored Belly an invitation to the debutante ball. As the event nears, Belly's confusion over her feelings for both Conrad and Jeremiah continues to build. Ahead, check out the full trailer and prepare to feel all the feels.

The first teaser trailer for The Summer I Turned Pretty was released on May 5, in a special announcement on IG from none other than the pop icon herself. Revealing the teaser trailer in a video post, Taylor wrote “Thank you @jennyhan for debuting my version of ‘This Love’ in the trailer for @thesummeriturnedpretty!!” in the caption. “I’ve always been so proud of this song and I’m very 🥺🥺🥺 about this turn of events - ‘This Love (Taylor’s Version)’ comes out tonight at m i d n i g h t!”

Fans only got a small taste of "This Love," with the snippet playing in the background of the trailer. Luckily for Swifties, the full re-recorded version of the 1989 track was released the next day on May 6. Author Jenny was actually the first to hint that one of Taylor's songs would be featured in the series. In a TikTok posted on May 4, Han asks fans which song they should put in The Summer I Turned Pretty, but did not divulge that the trailer debut would be released alongside one of the coveted "Taylor's Version" re-recordings.

Is The Summer I Turned Pretty coming back for season 2?

It sure is. Before the first season even premiered on Amazon Prime, the series got picked up for a second season.

"When I decided to adapt ‘Summer’ for television, I knew we’d need more than one season to honor the story we are telling," Jenny Han, the author of the novel the show is based on, said in a statement. "To receive a second season pickup ahead of the premiere of Season One is beyond my wildest dreams. I am so grateful to Amazon Studios for this amazing vote of confidence in our show, and cannot wait to bring our incredible team back together to tell the next chapter in our story."

Will there be more Amazon Prime series adapted from Jenny Han's books?

We can confirm that The Summer I Turned Pretty will not be the last we see of Han's work over at the streaming giant. According to Deadline, Jenny signed an overall television and film deal with Amazon Prime.

“Adapting my novel, The Summer I Turned Pretty, into a television series at Prime Video has been an incredible experience, and I’m so thrilled to now expand my relationship with them,” Jenny said. “I’ve been telling stories for as long as I can remember, first on the page, then onscreen, and now I’m delighted to start this new chapter: creating and championing stories about coming of age at every age for Prime Video’s global audience.”

So, while the first season of The Summer I Turned Pretty has yet to air, we can speculate that a season two and three (which will probably be based on the second and third books in the TSITP trilogy) may be in the works soon!

As for other books that may be made into TV adaptations, Jenny has another trilogy co-written with Siobhan Vivian titled Burn for Burn which has yet to debut on the screen. It's also entirely possible that the insanely talented author has another idea up her sleeves that has yet to be revealed.

While we wait for more news to drop, get ready to hit the sand and spread out a beach towel, 'cause The Summer I Turned Pretty is coming on June 17, and you won't want to miss any of the action.
