Everything We Know About The Crown Season 4

Season four of The Crown is still a ways away—after all, season three just premiered, and there’s no set date yet for the fourth season’s arrival to Netflix. For now, we'll just have to content ourselves with discovering every detail of the Soviet spy scandal and Princess Margaret's divorce.

However, scenes from the forthcoming season were shot recently—photos of Emma Corrin as Princess Diana leaked in October—which means we might not have too long to wait until they’re available to stream. Below, find out everything we know so far about the fourth season of the royal-studded series.

Will we finally meet Princess Diana?

Yes! Emma Corrin appears as Prince Charles’s wife in season four of The Crown, and she looks uncannily like her royal counterpart.

Who else will appear?

Get ready, because none other than Gillian Anderson will be portraying Margaret Thatcher, the United Kingdom’s first female prime minister. Anderson’s casting was announced in September.

Don’t expect a major cast overhaul like the one between seasons two and three, though; Olivia Colman will return as Queen Elizabeth II, of course, with Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles and Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip.

But one unexpected casting revelation has surprised and delighted fans; in November, photos from filming showed that Claire Foy, who portrayed Queen Elizabeth II in seasons one and two, will likely appear in season four. There's no need to worry that she'll be replacing Olivia Colman, though—the scenes are likely a flashback to a speech the royal made as a young woman.

Which real-life events will be covered?

Diana and Charles’s 1983 trip to Australia will be featured, as will the infamous Buckingham Palace break-in orchestrated by intruder Michael Fagan. Fagan, who claimed he had a 10-minute chat with the queen that only ended when he asked for a cigarette, will be played by Preacher’s Tom Brooke.

When will season four premiere?

Josh O'Connor has hinted that the new season could arrive next year, explaining in an interview with Harper's Bazaar, "We’ve got many months left, they’ve got a few episodes in, so it’s really exciting. And I think it will be the best yet, actually. I’m really looking forward to finishing that and then getting to share it sometime in 2020, I guess."
