Just months after Matt Lucas said he was leaving The Great British Bake Off, Channel 4 announced his highly anticipated replacement: Alison Hammond.

The British television personality quickly confirmed the news to her own social media accounts, writing, "Well, do you know what? I'm absolutely thrilled. I'm gonna be meeting the bakers very soon. I'm joining the Great British Bake Off. I'm so very excited. All my colleagues are absolutely speechless."

And while much of the public was thrilled over the news—one even called Hammond a "national treasure"—that doesn't mean that the entire GBBO fanbase is up-to-date with Noel Fielding's new co-host.

Here's everything you need to know about Great British Bake Off's Alison Hammond.

Where was Alison Hammond born and raised?

In a 2004 interview with BBC Birmingham, Hammond opened up about her upbringing in Kingstanding, Birmingham, England, where she attended Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School.

"Everyone knew everyone's business but that's what I loved about it," she said of her catholic school days. "I was very fond of school."

Hammond called Birmingham architecture her "passion," but admitted that she wasn't necessarily a fan of the local accent. "I can't get rid of mine," she told the outlet.

How did Alison Hammond get her start in television?

Hammond got her start in television as a contestant on the British reality show Big Brother back in 2022. Though she was the second person to be evicted from the house, the series led her to a career on screen.

"It definitely changed my life," she told Woman's Own in 2013. "I made some lovely friends on Big Brother and it changed my career path. I'm very grateful for that, as I love what I'm doing at the moment. I don't think it's changed me as a person, though. I've got the same life as I did before, I've just got another life on the side, which is good fun too!' "

What other TV shows has Alison Hammond been on?

Hammond has hosted ITV's daytime television show This Morning since 2022, where she's regularly interviewed A-listers like George Clooney and Ryan Gosling, People reports. She's also appeared on Celebrity Fit Club, I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, and Celebrity MasterChef. In 2018, she voiced Frankenstein's second cousin in the animated film Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.

die-hards have likely already noticed that Hammond is no stranger to the show. She appeared on the celebrity version of The Great British Bake Off, and charmed both judges and viewers.

Does Alison Hammond have any kids?

Though Hammond has largely kept her family life private, the new GBBO host did welcome her son, Aidan, in 2005.

"My baby is growing up so fast. Every day I pray for him, and he will always be the apple of my eye. My Aidan, My last Real love," she wrote on Instagram in April 2022, alongside photos and videos.

The mother-son duo also appeared together on the British Academy Television Awards red carpet that same year.

Despite Hammond's obvious intent to keep her son's life private, according to internet rumors, ITV was reportedly "keen" on getting 18-year-old Aidan on the network's hit dating show Love Island. "Alison was flattered, but Aiden has turned it down," sources told The Mirror.
