Everything We Know About the 'When Calls the Heart' Christmas Special for 2022

Hearties need to see this!

In years past, Hearties often looked forward to Christmas Day because they were sure to love one present given on that day—the When Calls the Heart Christmas movie. The last two seasons, due to the coronavirus pandemic wreaking havoc on filming schedules worldwide as well as other factors, fans didn't get their yearly When Calls the Heart Christmas movie. Instead, we got belated Christmas gifts each year with two bonus episodes each season. But 2022 is a new year, most people have chosen to get vaccinated with vaccines and constant covid testing mandated on most sets. Does all that mean our much-loved When Calls the Heart Christmas movie will be back?

Is there a When Calls the Heart Christmas movie in 2022?

Unfortunately, no. Hearties will be without a new When Calls the Heart Christmas movie again in 2022. But there are plenty of other holiday films to enjoy on Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries and other networks like Lifetime, UPtv, CBS and Great American Family.

There's been no word on when production will begin on the rest of season 2 of When Hope Calls. While cast hasn't been confirmed we'll likely see Ryan-James Hatanaka and Morgan Kohan who play Mountie Gabriel Kinslow and Lillian Walsh, respectively, return along with Wendy Crewson, Jefferson Brown, and Hanneke Talbot.

The actors who played Grace (Jocelyn Hudon) and Chuck (Greg Hovanessian) in the first season will likely not return for the second season. In the Christmas movie, it was explained that Chuck had followed Grace to London after she escorted one of the Brookfield kids there to reunite her with her grandfather. Grace and Chuck eventually got married and decided to remain in London to start an orphanage there. In reality, both actors were committed to other projects at the time. Hovanessian currently stars in Walker Independence on The CW and Hudon recently guest starred on The Rookie: FEDS.

In When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas, Abigail Stanton (Lori Loughlin) and her son Cody (Carter Ryan) come to town to bring a troubled boy to Lillian’s orphanage. It was Loughlin's first foray back into television after serving her sentence for a guilty plea in the Varsity Blues college admissions scandal. It's unclear if Loughlin or Ryan will return for the remainder of season 2 of When Hope Calls.
