Everything We Know About ‘The Big Bang Theory’ Season 12

By now we’ve all heard that season 12 will be The Big Bang Theory’s last (womp, womp). But, on the bright side, the show returns tonight (with a bang) and showrunner Steve Holland just spilled some bazinga-worthy details on what to expect from the show’s final season.

So what’s in store for us BBT fans? Well, Holland told Entertainment Tonight that Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) will explore the idea of having children, and guest stars Laurie Metcalf and Christine Baranski, who played Sheldon’s (Jim Parsons) mom, Mary Cooper, and Leonard’s mom, Dr. Beverly Hofstadter, respectively, may return. Unfortunately, however, he revealed that we won’t learn Penny’s maiden name because at this point it would feel forced.

What else? Honestly, Holland couldn’t reveal all that much about the plot, as they haven’t finished writing the episodes. But whatever happens, Holland assured fans that it’s very likely the show will end on a happy note. He reasoned, “One of the things I love about this show is that it’s a happy and positive show about people who love each other. I don’t think it would feel right to have a bummer ending to the show, it just wouldn’t feel in tone.” Above all, he says he wants the ending to feel “satisfying, true to these characters, memorable and surprising.” Here, here.

The Big Bang Theory’s final season kicks off tonight, Monday, September 24, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. We’re still in denial, but we’re definitely looking forward to Sheldon and Amy’s (Mayim Bialik) honeymoon.
