Fans have been waiting for Bad Boys 4 ever since the third movie in the franchise was released in 2020. The SAG-AFTRA strike delayed production on the fourth film for quite some time, but on Feb. 26, 2024, Sony Pictures announced that the movie's release date had been moved up to June 7, 2024, a week ahead of when the title was originally slated to come out.

While details about the project are scarce, we do know a little about what fans can expect to see, including, of course, the return of the movie's two main stars, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

What is the Bad Boys 4 release date?

The movie is slated for theatrical release on June 7, 2024. Production was delayed for months due to the dual writers' and actors' strikes that brought Hollywood to a standstill last year, but Smith confirmed in February 2023 that shooting on the movie had resumed  in Miami.

What is the plot of Bad Boys 4?

Plot details for Bad Boys 4 are being kept mostly under wraps, but in the third Bad Boys movie, Will Smith's Mike Lowrey found out that villain Armando (Jacob Scipio) was his son. The post-credits scene showed Mike visiting Armando in prison, setting up the possibility that the two would make amends and perhaps team up in the future.

It's also worth noting that Smith was at one point spotted filming what appeared to be a wedding scene with costar Melanie Liburd.

Is Will Smith in Bad Boys 4?

Yes, Will Smith is returning as Mike Lowrey. He confirmed in January 2023 that the movie was a go, writing on Instagram, "It's about that time!"

Is Martin Lawrence in Bad Boys 4?

Yes, Martin Lawrence is returning as Marcus Burnett. Lawrence told Ebony in July 2022 (prior to the announcement of a fourth movie) that he's "got one more" Bad Boys movie in him, "at least."

"For us to come together and prove that we can deliver, and we can pull people into the box office—that two Black stars, two sitcom stars, could make money at the box office [was huge]," Lawrence said of the OG movie, which grossed $141,407,024 at the worldwide box office (that's $286,170,145 when adjusted for inflation).
