Netflix Cancels "The Baby-Sitter's Club" After Two Seasons

Stoneybrook's favorite girl group returned with an eight-episode second season of Netflix's The Baby-Sitters Club in October 2021, and followed Kristy, Mary-Anne, Claudie, Stacey, and Dawn as they welcomed new members Mallory and Jessi into the club.

Season 2 was jam-packed with heartwarming and friendship-defining moments. Watching the club navigate managing a business while attending school and maintaining relationships with one another made my heart smile — they're so dedicated to the club and each other, and it's a beautiful sight to see.

However, it's time to say goodbye because The Baby-Sitters Club has officially been cancelled by Netflix. The show was initially a massive success, with season one earning seven Emmy Award nominations. After season two premiered on October 11, 2021, the series maintained a 100 percent Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes — and that's no easy feat. But according to Deadline, The Baby-Sitters Club never accumulated a large viewership, and only cracked Netflix's Top 10 list for one week at No. 9.

"I have wanted to be a part of the world Ann M. Martin created since I was 7 years old, and for two amazing seasons I actually got to be. It was a dream come true," showrunner Rachel Shukert said in a statement, per Deadline. "Although I am heartbroken not to be returning to Stoneybrook for 20 more seasons, I am so proud of the incredible show our amazing cast and crew created and the way it brought joy and comfort to so many when they needed it most."

"Thank you to Walden Media and to Netflix for giving us the opportunity to introduce Kristy, Claudia, Stacey, Mary Anne, Dawn, Jessi and Mallory to a new generation of fans who I know will love them as much as we do for years to come," Shukert continued.
