Everything Announced In Netflix’s Drop 01 Animation Presentation

Yesterday, Netflix held an hours-long Nintendo Direct-style presentation called Drop 01, showing off a number of new and previously announced animated projects in the works at the giant streamer. It also showed the first three episodes of Castlevania: Nocturne — but don’t worry if you missed it, the entire first season is available on Netflix now.

We’ve put together this list of everything announced and shown off during Netflix’s Drop 01 presentation, including first looks at a few new series, new trailers for previously known series, and more.

Devil May Cry Anime

The biggest news in the showcase, as far as we’re concerned, is an all-new animated series based on Devil May Cry. We don’t know much about it, but it’s being animated by The Legend of Korra animator Studio Mir, and executive produced by Adi Shankar, which is a recipe for a fantastic show. Capcom is said to be heavily involved, so we’re hoping it turns out well.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft Trailer

Devil May Cry isn’t the only video game property getting an animated show on Netflix — we got our first look at the Tomb Raider animated series during Drop 01 as well. It’s said to be, in some way, related to Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider reboot series, and is being animated by Powerhouse Animation.

Blue Eye Samurai Teaser

One of the more interesting things in Drop 01 was a teaser trailer for Blue Eye Samurai, a gorgeous new series from husband and wife team Amber Noizumi and Michael Green. It follows a mixed-race Japanese woman who has to hide her identity and her heritage as she tracks down and kills all the white men in Japan — one of whom may be her father. It sounds and looks absolutely incredible, and is set to be released on November 3, 2023.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Clip

We’ve known about the new Scott Pilgrim anime for a few months now, and we finally got to see a glimpse of it during the presentation. Netflix was kind enough to provide a 2-minute clip of the upcoming anime series, showing Scott Pilgrim on the lookout for Ramona Flowers — who apparently delivers DVDs for Netflix now. It’s looking pretty good, and isn’t too far away either, as it premieres on Netflix on November 17, 2023.

Masters Of The Universe: Revolution First Look

He-Man is back and he’s better than ever in the all-new Masters of the Universe: Revolution. In a first-look trailer shown during Drop 01, we saw He-Man himself teaming up with his father to take on Scare Glow, a scarecrow that glows. It’s kind of strange seeing He-Man resurrected like this, but hey, we aren’t complaining. The series is set to premiere next year.

Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix Full Trailer

Yep, it’s time for more video game adaptations, although this one is a little bit odd. Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix is vaguely based on the DLC expansion for Far Cry 3, and features a host of weird and wild characters — including a frog assassin. Like, from Assassin’s Creed, but a frog. It also features Rayman as a newsreader, which just feels a little bit mean given he hasn’t had his own game in such a long time. Also, the new series is a straight ripoff of Suicide Squad, but hey, it looks fun. It airs next month, on October 19.
