You Might’ve Missed This Character Trying to Poison Dany on Last Night’s Game of Thrones

Last night's Game of Thrones episode was so action-packed that you probably missed Varys trying to poison Daenerys at one point. Yes, you're reading that correctly: Before meeting his untimely death, Varys attempted to murder the new mad queen by poisoning her food.

That's what fans are positing on Twitter, at least. Their main evidence is an exchange Varys had with a girl working in the kitchen named Martha. Read it for yourself, below. Pay close attention to the language.

Varys: Nothing? Martha: She won’t eat.
Varys: We’ll try again at supper.
Martha: I think they’re watching me.
Varys: Who?
Martha: Her soldiers.
Varys: Of course they are. That's their job. What have I told you, Martha?
Martha: The bigger the risk, the bigger reward.
Varys: Go on. They'll be missing you in the kitchen.

It's clear from this exchange that Martha was stressed about delivering food to Dany, which she wouldn't be if it was just normal grub. Add in Varys' ominous mantra—"the bigger the risk, the bigger the reward"—and it certainly sounds like he was up to something diabolical. Something like (attempting) to poison the food Martha was supposed to bring Dany.

Ultimately, this didn't happen, but all signs point to Dany getting the ax in next week's series finale, most likely at the hands of Arya Stark. Fans now think this because of something Melisandre said to her in season three: "I see a darkness in you. And in that darkness, eyes staring back at me: brown eyes, blue eyes, green eyes. Eyes you'll shut forever." At first it was believed the "green eyes" in question here were Cersei's, but now it seems they belong to Dany.

We'll find out everything for sure when the Game of Thrones finale airs next Sunday, May 19, at 9:00 P.M. ET on HBO. It's all coming to an end, people.
