Costco seems to have a sixth sense for what its customers want, especially when it comes to its bakery department. Fans are insistent that many of its bakery items are among the best anywhere, and when a favorite disappears from the store's shelves, they are not happy. Luckily, once in a blue moon, the store brings fan favorites back.

That seems to be the case more than ever. This summer alone, Costco has brought back beloved baked goods including its Mini Raspberry Cakes, Mini Lemon Cakes, and Key Lime Pie, making dessert-loving customers very, very happy.

Well, it's happened again. The big box store had one pie in particular earlier this year that left Costco shelves too soon. But, according to some eagle-eyed shoppers, it’s back again. Here's what you need to know about the crowd-pleasing, peanut butter pie.

Costco’s Fan-Favorite Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie Is Back

Back in March, Costco added a large Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie to its shelves, inspired by the flavors of a Reese’s peanut butter cup and weighing in at a whopping 4.5 pounds. Of course, the bakery item was a huge hit. With a graham cracker crust, creamy peanut butter filling, and chocolate mousse top, how could it not have been?

In fact, it was such a hit that Costco sold out of the pies quickly, leaving shelves empty and fans distraught. The /Costco Reddit page even has an entire thread dedicated to spotting the pie, which is apparently so rare and coveted that one user dubbed it “The Unicorn.” This week, fans of "The Unicorn" are celebrating, because it’s been spotted back in the bakery department once again.

If you find the Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie in your local Costco, you may be tempted to stock up. And, apparently, you should. Of course, the pie is delicious as is, but interestingly, many commenters on the aforementioned Reddit thread spoke about freezing it. Not only will freezing stretch out your enjoyment of the pie and enable you to stock up on a few at a time before it inevitably leaves shelves again, but apparently, it may also make it taste even better.

“I just stocked up and bought 4! I froze one and tried it that way…So good! It tasted almost like a mousse-y, chocolate peanut butter ice cream cake...Highly recommend!,” said one Reddit user. Another added, “[It's] significantly better if you eat it right out of the freezer! Something about the change to a more solid texture makes it taste better (to me).”

Many commenters said they were still having trouble finding the peanut butter-chocolate concoction at their local Costco. If you find yourself in the same situation, don't despair. We have a top-rated peanut butter pie recipe to hold you over until your Costco’s bakery gets them back in stock, too.
