What Every Doodle in the "13 Reasons Why" Season 3 Opening Credits Mean

One of the most iconic parts of 13 Reasons Why is its opening title sequence that looks like a chalkboard full of fun doodles featuring key items that will be super important to the story. Of course, each episode highlights one item that you definitely keep an eye out for while watching to make sure you get all the important parts. Find out what those special doodles are and what they mean in each episode.

Episode 1: A Bike Lock

Clay gets taken away by the police for inquiring after Bryce's disappearance. While being interrogated, the police show him his old bike lock that was found in Bryce's room with his name on the lock.

Episode 2: Lucky Rabbit's Foot Keychain

Chloe gave the special keychain to Zach after being assigned to him as his official cheerleader for Spring Workout. Zach would keep the keychain on his bag, until he took it, off prompting Clay and Ani to figure out why.

Episode 3: Notepad Being Shaded In

Ani shows Clay a letter that was left behind on Justin's notepad before his death addressed to Jessica. The two of them end up questioning Jessica's motives as it becomes clear they had some sort of contact before he died.

After the local newspaper reports that Bryce was shot, Tyler reveals that he still has his gun leftover and asks Clay and Tony to get rid of it for him like they did the others.

Episode 5: Testosterone Cypionate Bottle

Bottles of steroids (testosterone cypionate) are found in the back of Bryce's car, leading the police to start an investigation to find out if Byrce dealt them and if his death was possibly tied to a botched drug deal. Several members of the football team also have their belongings searched and the police discover the bottles in their possession despite Zach having a clean playing policy.

Episode 6: A File

Clay and Ani try to find Justin's parents' divorce papers in hopes of finding a connection between them and his murder.

Episode 7: A Pair of Underwear

The police show a pair of underwear to Clay, revealing that they found it in Bryce's room and they believe that Ani had sex with Bryce. In a flashback, Ani is seen wearing the exact same pair when she was getting measured for her costume.

Episode 8: A Journal with a Labyrinth On The Front

Ani recognizes Mr. Porter's journal as the same one that Bryce has used over the past couple of months. It's revealed that Mr. Porter actually gifted Bryce the journal and has been his therapist after he failed to connect with several others.

Episode 9: A Bottle of Pills

After getting tipped off by Monty about Justin's fake shaving cream bottle, Clay discovers a bottle of oxycodone with Bryce's name. Justin reveals that Bryce gave him the pills after he discovered that Justin was still using heroin as a way to slowly get off of it. He also revealed that he had taken a new bottle of the pills during Bryce's funeral as a way to cope with his death.

Episode 10: A Key

Bryce tries to give Tony the keys to his Mustang back after discovering that his dad is the reason why Tony's family was deported in the first place.

In episode 10, the police take Clay's phone away to figure out what was said in the voicemail that Mrs. Baker left him. The police are also looking into the different cell towers that Clay was nearby in order to see if he was close to the river at the time of the murder.

During the Homecoming protest, the girls used a can of red paint and dipped their hand in the can and placed hand prints on them to show the effects of rape. It's also revealed that it was paint from the can, not blood, that was on Ani's shirt.

Jessica reveals that Bryce gave her a tape where he confesses to raping her and Hannah. She ends up playing the tape for everyone over at Clay's house.
