Everlane Is Retiring Its Modern Loafer—Here’s Why You Should Get a Pair (at Almost 50% Off) While You Still Can

Don’t cry because it’s over—smile because it happened.

When I became a big city working girl, I decided that I needed a professional pair of big city work shoes. I wanted professional kicks that were also comfortable—shoes I could wear while I rushed from meeting to meeting without wanting to chop my feet off by the end of the day. After some searching, I landed on the Everlane Modern Loafer, and I decided I’d never need another work shoe again.

That was a few years ago, and I’ve worn my Modern Loafers (in camel) several times a week, every week. Imagine my surprise when, last night, I received an email from Everlane announcing that it is retiring the Modern Loafer. While supplies last, pairs of the Modern Loafer in black, camel (a nice light brown), and bone (aka white) are available for $90—almost 50 percent (46 percent, to be precise) off the standard retail price of $168.

Everlane Modern Loafer review

What’s so great about the Everlane Modern Loafer? First, the shoes look sleek and professional, while still a little casual—the kind of shoe you can wear all day at work and then to happy hour after. Sure, you could say the same of strappy sandals or nice heels, but these shoes are also incredibly comfortable. The 100 percent Italian leather uppers mold to your foot, and the sole is supportive enough without looking chunky. I don’t even recall a painful, blister-inducing breaking-in period when I began wearing these shoes.

Beyond the comfort and the elegant (but not stiff) look, the Everlane Modern Loafers last. I’ve had mine for almost two years, and I’ve worn them quite a bit—they still look almost new, and I expect them to last another few years (though I did stock up on a second pair when I heard Everlane was retiring them, just to be safe). The genuine leather material means you can easily clean any smudges or light scratches with the appropriate cleaner, so I can keep my shoes looking as clean and new as they were when I took them out of the box.

If you’ve been looking for a reliable, good-looking pair of loafers to wear to work, these are it. I paid full price for my first pair (I know, I can’t believe it either) and I still feel like they were a great value—at just $90 a pair, they’re an even better deal now. (Plus, it’s your last chance.)

If you’re sold on the Modern Loafer, you’ll want to act fast: When Everlane says “while supplies last,” it means it, which means if you see an Everlane jumpsuit or bag you love, you should buy now, think later. Everlane sales tend to clear out in days, if not hours, so your opportunity to get a pair of these shoes while they’re still available is slipping away. As I write this, the white (bone, officially) Modern Loafers are almost completely sold out—only size 11 is still available. There’s much more availability in the brown and black options, fortunately, but I expect those to disappear within the day.

If you purchase a pair of the Modern Loafer, consider sizing up a half size (the shoe runs narrow) and remember that this is final sale—no returns or exchanges allowed. Happy shopping!
